...and it's not me doing it! I keep getting the message 'Maximum password failures for this IP address reached for today. (62.252.224.7) Please email admin@renderosity.com to re-enable your IP address.' the first time, I was at work. the 2nd? I was in bed. the 3rd was this morning... It's not me!! so why do I keep getting locked out? any ideas? (and yes I've emailed eachtime.. with no response from the admins) Kai

Well, someone could be trying to get in under your name... someone could have a name very close to yours.. and thinks they just forgot their password... There are a number of reasons.. but I'm sure that the Admins are looking into it based on this post. They should be getting back to you on this. :) - James trueSpace Mod.

There are about 65 user that share that IP (dial-up) so when one of then try there password and fail more than 3 times, our system blocks that IP for the day to keep out script attacks. If you are on a dial-up, just hang up and dial in on a new IP, that should get you in until the other IP resets in 24 hours. Hope that helps.

nope, since I'm on a Broadband connection... my IP don't change... so I get locked out for 24 hours every time :( anyway of finding out who's misentering the password?

That's odd, we are showing around 65 users from that IP.

hmm unless... just checked - that IP is NTL's Cablemodem router for this area.. - so when it gets locked out the whole of this area of leeds gets locked out... so we got someone coming in on this router.. misentering the password and fouling us all up :(

Most ISP's don't give a permanent IP address to their customers, which means that any computer user can have a different IP address any time they get online. This is an economic issue. ISP's can't afford to give everyone a permanent IP address. Or we wouldn't want to pay the price. So in essence when Renderosity blocks an IP address, they're blocking a range of IP addresses which belong to a bunch of users in a given area. That's not a very good practice when you think about it. But then again that should be common knowledge to anyone who runs this kind of site or uses that kind of software.

Umm...most broadband providers DO provide a single static IP address to a user...that's how it is at my parents' house, and at my apartment. And most anyone I know with cable internet connections. Of course, this might be a US only issue. That should only be common knowledge. For anyone that uses the internet.

this happened to me as well, I thought poss a hacker, btu then thought "why me?" I installed Internet security again, (Never bothered after the format because I had never gotten a warning before) Audre emailed me and said all is well, but I never found out why this could have happed. Can you find out how many people are coming through my IP?

Here's a quote from Adelphia concerning their Powerlink cable modem package: "Can I have a static IP instead of a dynamically assigned IP? Customers may obtain a static IP address by purchasing Power Link's Small Business Plus service package." Now, just which broadband ISP's do offer static IP addresses?

'IP is NTL's Cablemodem router for this area' with me it's not my own static IP. it's the NTL (my ISP) Router for the this area thats being locked out. It gets locked out, the other 64 users of this site get locked out. Plus since the IP number I have under that Router is assigned to my Cablemodem, not my computer, and I never turn my cable modem off........? Kai
