Recently one of our artists lost her battle with cancer. Many of you have offered your condolences. http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12356&Form.ShowMessage=780663 Don't you wish you could DO something to help? Are you tired of feeling helpless in the face of cancer? Well you can help -- You can help find a cure. There is a program called United Devices. It is a research tool to locate potential cancer treatment drugs. If works like a screen saver, but instead of drawing useless pictures it looks for molecular matches to cancer protiens. I have started a United Devices team, the page is here: CureLogoBlack.gif
PoserHeads

Download the agent, joint the team and DO something about it.

I'll have a computer that'll be entirely idle soon. Why not put it to good use? That's a wonderful idea Nerd. Thanks. Q

I have it running on 3 computers and it doesn't interfere with anything at all. If not for the icon in the taskbar, I'd never know it was there. :) Thanks again, nerd for making us aware that we can do something. :) Lisa

Thanks, nerd :) I'll load it up on my office PC (it's running all the time)!! Brian

Flaxynn ( ) posted Fri, 12 July 2002 at 8:33 PM

I loaded the proggy, but it won't let me join the team right now, says try again later... I definitely will. It is crunching numbers though. Thanks for the link, Nerd!

"You have sucessfully joined this team"........YeeHaw! It worked!

djuke ( ) posted Fri, 12 July 2002 at 8:47 PM

Well thanks very much Nerd for the info about how to join this program. I've joined the program and the team. My puter have been running the prog. for 1 hour without any problems at all. I'v got cancer close to me to, so what are you all waiting for? Join and let us get rid of this beast called cancer..

I'm on a Mac and I'm so sad that I can't participate. Cancer took my only child and is now threatening 3 of my friends. If anyone ever hears of a project like this that uses Macs too, please IM me. This is an absolutely wonderful idea!

quixote ( ) posted Fri, 12 July 2002 at 8:55 PM

Patricia While I can't help you with the Mac problem. I planned to run this on only one of my computers. I'd like, respectfully to add two more computers in honor of your child, if I may. Best wishes, Michel

Patricia, There are other projects. There must to be some for the MAC, probably Linux too. Here is a link to an index of Distributed Computing projects. If you find a good one for the MAC, please post here or ant the Poser Heads board at Nerd3D:

Actually this is not new. You may help fighting cancer, but remember - you help finding a cure which will be patented and make big amounts of money for the company to which you graciously give away you computing time. Actually you have no control what kind of calculation are made on your computer, read the fineprint to make sure you DO calculate for a cancer project fulltime and don't calculate nuclear weapons inbetween. Just my two cents. Just wanted to show the whole cake, not just the sugar.

I checked the fineprint and it seems as if it has changed since i checked the last time. It seems that you neither construct bombs nor generate patentable value... sorry about being suspicious. seems it is a good thing now.

Is anybody else having trouble connecting to the UD server? It shuts me down or gives me a "no match" message. I've stripped it down to 1 machine and one modem, no firewall, no proxy, just a simple dial-up; I checked everything including registration info...still no go. Any thoughts? Q

I had that problem for a while but it was my firewall that was blocking it, so I don't know, sorry mate :) Rob
