OK - a few of you knew I'm working on another project beside doing poses: TEXTURES Before I go on ... this topic is not general Poser-related but in the end I think the textures will be used for this and that Poser-object :o) It took me some time to understand the basics about taking digital images to be satisfied enough with the results to finally post it to the public. I still don't know where the final result will lead to - maybe to objects with textures that are (in my eyes) a little bit over the normal - detail - standard. If you click on the link you'll find a page with 9 raw-textures. Please don't click on one link if you don't have a fast internet-connection (and if you have to - please don't open it to often - I have also to take care of my bandwidth - capabilities) because those images are high - even as they are compressed to *.jpg I would be interested what do you think about those - well let's say - raw-textures ?? Am I moving in the right direction, etc ?? I don't know how this will be finally get to you - maybe in form of a very cheap CD and certainly in form of this and that free texture - but I think that's not the main question at the moment. Oh - because I know that question will come somewhen: I'm using: A Casio QV 4000 Digital Camera (4,1 Megapixel) - Microdrive and lots of Memory-Cards included an external Metz Meca-flashlight (34 BT-2) (if necessary). As the Casio has a Canon-ojective I'm using sometimes a Tele and a Widescreen - objective also from Canon - sometimes an O-Haze or a Skylightfilter (not for walls). This all is mounted on a big Hama-triped (it's impossible to get an image sharp by shooting out of the hand) Don't ask about the price - it's expensive and you have to wait sometimes extremly long for this and that lense or other equipment(I waited around 8 weeks for the Tele - for example - because it was sold out). Well - so far so good - let's hear some opinions ...

MORE of them :)

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Wed, 17 July 2002 at 7:35 PM

MORE of them, please.

There's always a demand for high-resolution textures. They can be scaled down to whatever size needed. Best of all, they can be used in multiple applications, not just Poser.

These are very nice. The quality is excellent. I have a Casio QV3000EX thats I had for over two years. I can't believe the image quality from these cameras. Are we allowed to use any of these textures in images? I only downloaded two to save your bandwidth. Or are these just to tease us with another angle of your artistic creativity?

These look really good (I only looked at 2) and I know where you are coming from, I don't have a Dig. Camera of my own but I do have access to my brothers when I go to the city, and I have been taking pictures for textures with it. I definately have to use a tripod to get crisp pics. I am not sure what his camera's set up is, but it takes 1024x906 pixles (or close I cannot remember the exact #'s)

Very nice. Your camera takes some pretty great pics. I particularly like the ones with vegetation growing out of them. Try using the camera's exposure adjustments to "bracket" your pictures (slightly underexposed, slightly overexposed, and default exposure). That way you have options and may find you like the varied exposures better than the default one when you get them into your PC. Doing this with the camera instead of as a post-process generally gives better results, and those exposures can often be layered to great effect as well. The great thing about digital cams is your only limit is memory card size for doing things like that. :) If you don't have one, you may want to get a tripod for keeping the camera perfectly still and getting nice, squarely lined up shots. That's not a dig at what you've done by any means because they look great, just a general suggestion.

Doesn't look like any reason to be nervous to me! Some really nice textures! Regards- Lemurtek

webvogel ( ) posted Thu, 18 July 2002 at 7:24 AM

You are moving in a ...essentially direktion! Good textures are like...good hair. No easy task, they have to be extendable to use them or easy to edit for use in bryce etc. They have to be shot without direkt sunlight, to much shadows make them useless. The more clouds on a sunny day the better....good luck! Your first are useful =means= supernice!! :O) But the best service imaginable you can provide with your cam is : SKIN !!!!! :O)

Schlabber ( ) posted Thu, 18 July 2002 at 7:58 AM

Jewel- and Little Dragon, kayjay, Lemurtek - I've hundreds (no joke) of them - thx :o) rwilliams, pokeydots - sure ... they are for free :o) - Else I would have posted a message :o) -> go out and use them !! scifiguy - that's just a very little overview - and hey, yes - it's spelled tripod (lol). webvogel - uhm, skin - yes, but there's a minor problem: Did you ever try to go to a beautifull woman asking if she would allow me to take some pictures of her skin - explaining I would need that for digital textures ?? An advice: Mind your left eye - it might would change the color afterwards (lol). About the weather - right ! sun is extremely - uhm - unhelpfull :o) - rain also - you've to catch the days where the weather is in between - but, well I'm living in Germany :o) - easy task here. Thank you so far for your help - regarding all the rest of the textures ... hmm, I'm searching for solutions to give them away later on to a reasonable price - giving them away all through a website would kill the bandwidth I have - so far I can say ...

webvogel ( ) posted Thu, 18 July 2002 at 8:48 AM

etep ( ) posted Thu, 18 July 2002 at 2:57 PM

nothing to be nervous about, great pics, with lots of potential uses. from my own exprence, i use a clear cloudy day, no flash, and tiny appature, with camera mounted on a very stable tripod, and remotely trigger shutter to get rock faces and walls,

nikitacreed ( ) posted Thu, 18 July 2002 at 4:12 PM

These are fantastic Schlabber!! I always have a use for high resolution textures! heh What is your liscense on these? Non-commercial use only?

Schlabber ( ) posted Thu, 18 July 2002 at 5:25 PM

I know it's a tradition here to say only positive things, and anytime someone announces they are uploading a new cube to freestuff it's always greeted with great cheers - BUT I just have to point out that the web is coming down with textures like these already. I would be sorry if you spent your time on this project at the expense of other projects for which you have special talents.
