Subject: High res texture creation

When making a high resolution texture...what is considered high resolution for poser...and what is "overkill". I am right now making an old man face texture, and I have the dpi set to 200, and the image size is 13"x13". Would that be overkill? Rawn

Rawnrr, Yeah, I'd say that's a little over kill LOL. Most of the high res maps I've found are between 2000 and 4000 pix square, but you also have to realize, that some machines can't handle that kind of RAM use.

Thanx.....thats what I kind of figured when I saw the file size. I realized that a file that big may be sure to crash my poser (when I try it out at home) Rawn

13" x 13" @ 200 DPI is a 2600x2600 pixel map. That's certainly high resolution, but I would not say it is overkill if you're looking to do any extreme closeups on the figure. DAZ's standard for hi-res is 3000 pixels square for the head, 4000 for bodies. Their standard res head and body maps are 1450 and 1950 respectively. IMHO, the standards are enough for all but the closest of closeups. I generally design my own textures at 2048x2048, due to only having 512MB RAM in my system, and I scale them down when I know they are not going to be seen close up. -Adam

Most of the time, Poser cannot recognize over 4000x4000 pixels... dunno why. Even a 4001x4001 can often go screwy where a 4000x4000 works perfectly and smoothly.
