Subject: making MAT files....maybe??

hello i'm not sure if making a mat file is what i need to do.. i'll try to explain my problem... i'm trying to set up my textures so, for example, if i wanted to take head texture one and put it with blue lips and green eyes...mix and match kinda. from what i've read and understand MAT files change the colour but keep the same texture. i have 4 different texture colours of lips, eyes, etc... is there a way i can set it up to change the textures of the lips, eyes, etc seperately? the way that i'm doing it now, if i try to change the lip texture with a MAT pose it doesn't keep the head texture...same thing if i change the head tex, the lips go white. is there a way to do it or am i going at this all wrong? hopefully someone can understand what i'm trying to figure out :) thanks for any help

Yes, it's quite easy to do. If you can post the 2 MAT files that you want to combine, or send it to me via e-mail, I can put the 2 together and show you how to do it.

Actually, there is a second way, where you can make MAT files to affect just one material - the lips, for example. You simply strip away everything but the Lips material information and have it point to the new texture. This way, you can easily have a few basic texture MATs, then a bunch of lip MATs for all different sorts of colors.

If the color for one material is all that you are changing, not only can you limit the MAT to one material, you can limit the material to the single line that you are changing = KdColor - for Poser color or textureMap - a texture change If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you are not changing the other lines, do not "fix" them with the MAT pose.

Here's a sample of a Lip MAT - it is for Jayde, a character/texture set for Vicki at the Marketplace. Just change the textureMap location to your texture location. (It assumes that the texture is inside the Poser folder.) If you want to make MATs for Posette, you need to change the name from Lips to lips. (Poser is case sensitive.) (Unsolicated plug - I love to use Jayde for default characters (tutorials and such) - the texture looks good in any light.) { version { number 4.01 } figure { material Lips { KdColor 1 1 1 1 KaColor 0 0 0 1 KsColor 0.337255 0.254902 0.239216 0 TextureColor 0 0 0 1 NsExponent 95.1942 tMin 0 tMax 0 tExpo 0 bumpStrength 1 ksIgnoreTexture 0 reflectThruLights 1 reflectThruKd 0 textureMap ":Runtime:textures:MoonlightDesigns:Jayde:MD_JaydeHead.jpg" 0 0 bumpMap NO_MAP reflectionMap NO_MAP transparencyMap NO_MAP ReflectionColor 0 0 0 1 reflectionStrength 1 } displayMode USEPARENT locked 0 } setGeomHandlerOffset 0 0.3487 0 }

Except for P-Wizard, I find all the other MAT utilities too difficult to use for my simple mind.
