I've got two sets of normals in the same sections, which leave ugly holes in the model till its rendered. MAZ two face program doesn't work ether. neighter does the material editor (which turns the object inside out) what else can i do to get all the normals the same way?? Both Carrara AND RDS5.5 seem to cause this problem after i export from Poser.

Go back to the grouping tool. Create a new group and select only the areas that appear to be a "Hole" and reverse Normals. -JH.

Try my personal trick. 1.)Export it to .DXF. Then re-import the .DXF file 2.)Jump it into the MFM to convert it to an editable mesh file 3.)Export it as .obj I discovered that when you convert something to .DXF then back again. It points all of the normals in the same direction. I wish I could patent this idea. I could use the money ;-). ScottA iamsba@aol.com

TwoFace doesn't move any normals, it just adds extra ones in the opposite direction. It also has a bug/feature which means it doesn't work at all on obj files originally created on Macs or Unix machines, but I'm working on afix for that at thisvery moment.

Thanks guys!! to MAZ: it doesn't work well on mutli part obj files ether on a PC. It causes the object to detonate into a million little strands of vertxes especially from RDS5.5!!!

Try selecting the whole thing in your vertex exitor, emptying teh polygon and refilling them. Its simple but it seem to work most of eth time.

thanks! i did find a way to do it with carrara (even though its MFM leaves a little to be desired). iff i do fill polygons and eport from carrara with the surface fidelity cranked up then i'm ok!

if you have MAX, there is a fix normals or align normals with the mesh editor. sometimes you have to click it more than once.

Ghost, Could you e-mail me an example of an obj file that it doesn't work on and I'll attempt a fix. Thanks, maz@sandylodge.demon.co.uk

Put the bad mesh (in .OBJ format) somewhere where I can upload it, and I will have a look at it.

DaFerret, thanks but it's not me that's got the normals problem, it's Ghost. I've already got 3d Exploration, and a wonderful piece of software it is too. What I wanted was an obj file from Ghost that TwoFace (my software) doesn't process properly, so I can fix the bug in it. If I can't reproduce a bug I can't fix it.
