Subject: Problems with the pose folder in Poser

SophiaDeer ( ) posted Sun, 28 July 2002 at 6:24 PM · edited Fri, 02 August 2024 at 4:16 PM

Hello,

I have many, many pose files due to freebies and mats from things I have purchased.

I notice that when I try to bring up some of the folders that are down toward the end of the list, they wont come up.

I have to rename them so they appear at the top of the list and then can bring them to come forth.

My question please is this..( sounds stupid but need to know)

It is better please to have a separate folder for mats, etc. on hardrive and just drag to Poser folder when needed?

I dont want to strain the Poser program.

Has anyone had problems with this or is it just my PC?

Thank you in advance.

Warm Regards,
Nancy Deer With Horns (SophiaDeer)

I've had problems whenever any of my libraries exceeds 250 folders by much. I go thru & consolidate contents to reduce the # of folders regularly - usually using Yarp's P3d0 program. I've also "moved" a lot of MAT & MOR folders over to the Camera & Lights libraries - they'll work just fine from there, but the File Extensions have to be changed from PZ2 to LT2 or CM2 so Poser will "see" them there. There's a fine Commercial Product called PBoost that "swaps" groups of folders into & out of the libraries when needed. - works differently for some folks depending on their computer & OS, but there's a free Compatibility tester in freestuff, last time I looked.

Nancy, The texture files can be located anywhere on your computer. If they are under Runtime it makes it easier for Poser to find them. You don't need MAT files at all.* You certainly don't need them clogging up what ought to be a "pose" folder. *If the MAT file includes pose, texture, morph, and scaling information all in 1 click it may be useful enough to justify its inclusion in your libraries. I have kept Bloodsong's birds of prey MATs in the Library because of the major body-shaping involved. I would not do it just to change the color on a shirt! Another point: if you are constantly scrolling down lists of 250 folders, you are going to kill your wrists. Why not simply bring in what you need for a project and then move those files back out again when you're done? If you are baking a cake, you bring out the eggs, flour, and sugar, while the macaroni, peanut butter, and canned spinach stay in the cupboard, right? Carolly

Good point, Carolly...thanks for bringing it up. I do appreciate it! Warm Regards, Nancy

Cookie, anyone? passes steaming tray of delicious homebaked Poser gingerbread men around H:)

::ruffle, ruffle:: There are some ginderbread men in these folders... and cookies, and a cupcake! But not a whole cake. However, that can be whipped up with a squashed cylinder. Swirly frosting? Nice white curly hair props in a ring! :) I don't have much counter space, so try not to pull out anything more than I need. Perhaps the greatest and most creative chefs in this world have accidently mixed rice into their cake mix, but I don't own a 5-star restaurant: I just want it to taste good. I even keep my spices separated by whether they go into "sweets" or "savories". Someone else who wants to be more creative can pull out everything they own and see if life spontaneously generates in the confusion. Glad that I've helped folks start the Monday with a smile. :) Carolly

"...I even keep my spices separated by whether they go into "sweets" or "savories"...." Carolly... It's puzzling me... where do you put your ginger? Maybe you should have an extra place in-between for the "swingers" of the spice world!! LOL... Thanks for the heads-up... I will be adding a virtual spice-rack, flour sack and chicken (for the eggs) to PBooost in the next update. H:)

I think (hopefully CL does too) that the libraries should be customizable. i.e. adding entirely new ones for MATs etc. I like to have all my stuff readily available. But, with all this stuff, it gets dificult to wade through. Also: If your list gets too long to view, jsut use your down arrow on your keyboard to scroll, also you can type the first letter of the group and it will "jump" down the list to those letters. OR, if you are @ the top of your list and want to access something @ the bottom of the list, but can't see it, press the up arrow on your keyboard and it jumps to the bottom of your list.

Thanks EvoShandor, I will try that too. I bought PBoost am am reading the tutorial now on how to work it. I am not as young as I used to be so it takes a while to sink in. Thanks so much everyone for all your help. Warm Regards, Nancy

Evo... I don't think Poser 5 has been given the libraries you want... It looks like the only difference is that P5 allows sub-folders in the libraries... I hope I'm wrong! H:)

Ginger is with the savories. I've never made a gingerbread house, so don't think of it as a "sweet" spice. Orange and Lemon Peel would join your category of swingers since they "brighten" almost anything. Raisins and nuts can go either way, too. I usually bake with mine, but people who cook for families probably think of them as aids to stuffing, salads, and cassaroles. With any library system, the key is to put things where you can find them again. With 4 years experience as a reference librarian (this is how I got through college), I learned to put things where other people could find them, too. The exact type of logic is not important. Results are. And, of course, all of the above presumes no other agency has moved the object! My cat prefers small round objects, but she is from a long line of key thieves. Some day I'll find that key. Carolly
