Subject: Attn Mark Bremmer - Question about Mac 3d Extensions and Carrara

You mentioned the need to make sure that one's Mac system isn't looking for ATI and Open GL 3D extensions at the same time. I noticed that I have both ATI and Open GL installed on my G3 Mac OS 9. The ATI update is Mar 99. How do I prevent my system from looking for them both, given they are both there? Should I turn one of them off? Miss Nancy

Hi MN, I too have the Mar '99 ATI and Open GL on a G3 with MacSys8.6 but disabled the ATI extension for the Rage 128 card since I don't have that particular card. With that extension 'on' I would get inconsistent but very frequent crashes during 3D renders. I wish that I could tell you more about how the system looks for the appropriate extensions but I can't :) I just know that with that particular extension off, everything has been smooth sailing ever since. The rest of the ATI and Open GL extensions are currently loaded on my system with no ill effects. I don't know if this helps but here it is! Mark

I had been getting type 2 errors prior to updating to 1.1, mostly involving the shader browser, when trying to save new or modified shaders. Carrara is more stable now. I guess you would get errors from the ATI extension when you try to render or maybe try to move things in the assembly screen.. I have the ATI 128 accelerator so I'll have to leave the ATI 128 extension active. I don't get errors in the assembly or render screens (knock on wood ;-) What other Mac OS errors in Carrara have you seen? Possibly regarding the misinterpretation of Poser mtl files? sincerely, Miss Nancy

The latest version of OpenGL is v 1.1.2 from Nov,99. You can get it Here: http://asu.info.apple.com/swupdates.nsf/artnum/n11545

Believe it or not, I don't have any other errors. Carrara is really stable on my system. I do get a slow down manipulating vertex models when polygon counts approach 75,000 and above. That's to be expected I suppose. Mark
