Hi Friends This time the theme is "Still Life". Prize will be Amapi or Carrara, winners choice. Contest starts now and ends August 15th. Also accepting volunteers for judges. First 10 replies get a spot on the judges panel for this contest. As before, I will host images for artists that do not have a web site, but please use your server space if you have any. Just email me your image, a 160x120 thumb and I will host it on my server. I will try and get some free models loaded to the contest page for you to use if you wish...vases and pitchers and stuff for still lifes :)) The rules are at the contest page. See link provided Hope to see you all there!!! Have fun and Good Luck!!!! Jerry

Judging might be fun! btw how did you enjoy your Bryce judgeship?..LOL...I did it last year and had a blast! Ali

Prizm Break ( ) posted Sat, 06 July 2002 at 11:27 AM

Heh, it was OK, I kept forgetting I was a judge, so when I'd go look, there were like 60 or 70 new images to see each time:)) Well I'll put you as a judge and if you decide to eneter instead, I'll move you over ;-p

What do you think of this....... It seems when a contest lasts 6 weeks, the first couple of pages get looked at over and over by the judges. It seems that when they see something they really like early in the contest that after seeing it so many times it loses it's charm. I've been thinking of holding all the images until the very end and post them all at once. Im open for ideas... Jerry

myalicat ( ) posted Sat, 06 July 2002 at 7:26 PM

That is a great idea.I know you do get sensory overload after a while.. Also another thing I have seen, was in a contest a while back,, they showed the images right from the start,, but what they did do that i hadnt seen before was not post the names of the artist, and forbid the names to be on the artwork,, that way the judges were not affected by the notoriety (or lack of) of the artist. After the judges had reached their decision, then the names were posted under the pics...

I've seen that too, it's a good idea. Most of my judges are not artists and do not know thier works. they are just regular people like we used to be, lol. I got them from artists guestbooks mostly. I'm not sure how I want to handle this. I guess if the artists want thier images held, they will submit them later in the contest. I guess it's all part of competeing, playing the strategies :) (hint)

LOL yeah I know what you mean,, but i have never been one to hold out til the last, (except for the last Mother's Day Image I posted, and that wasn't on purpose,LOL) usually I am one of the first to post my pics for a contest..... Guess maybe i should hold out too til the end.. ( and when you think of it it is a good idea, already had people steal my ideas, improve on them and then win a contest,,,grrrrr,,lol) Ali

How about you put up the thumbnails now, so that people can see others are entering and not be afraid they're going to be the only one or something. but hold the full sized version till they're all in so that the judges and others get a chance to see them in full size all at once

Prizm Break ( ) posted Sun, 07 July 2002 at 8:43 AM

Hmmm, that sounds like an idea. Let me look into that. The only drawback would be that the galleries are not dynamic, I manually load all the info for each image. I get between 70-100 images per contest. It would take hours going back through and loading all those image links. Quantika said he'd help me build a dynamic script, much like the one they use here, so maybe I should shoot for the next contest to do crazy tricks :))
