Forum Coordinators: RedPhantom
Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 25 4:22 pm)
The moderator of the forum in question has dertermined that the added commentary would probably lead to violation of the TOS or generally disrupt the community so the thread is "locked". I'm sure they usually state their reasons for doing so (at least in the ones I've read) so the post is allowed to remain possibly as a guide to the rest of us?? (not really sure on that score ;-) For the most part I agree with their decisions and they all are keeping the hub-bub down to a dull roar which for me is all I ask- LOL!
It means that the moderators or admins feel that a thread needs to be stopped for one of a few reasons: 1) The thread breaks the TOS. Warez requests and personal attacks are the most common violations. 2) The thread is not going anywhere and is bordering on personal attacks. (Very uncommon, but it has happened a few times when members who severely dislike each other wander into a very off-track thread.) If the TOS is broken badly enough, the illegal or abusive post that causes the thread lock is deleted as well. Hope this helps.
...They don't delete threads they've locked, mainly because they really don't want to be censoring us unnecessarily - but they do have to keep things within the guidelines because that's their jobs. Locking a thread is like having someone say "The subject is closed" and then emforcing it. I've only seen them delete comments if they contain something outright illegal, like info relating to Warez or defamatory comments. Sometimes a thread has been locked temporarily while they look into a possible problem, but that's fairly rare. Also they'll sometimes move a thread from one forum to another that suits the subject of the thread better.
There are certain subjects where there will never be 100% agreement among a group of people. Things like:
Are Macs better computers than PCs?
Is creating an image using models you didn't create yourself really art?
XXXX is/is not the best country, everyone else sucks/rocks.
and so on. They come up regularly every few months or so as we add new members.
Many of us are passionate about our beliefs and won't be persuaded otherwise. Therefore, although sometimes the questions/issues are legitimate, it's obvious that we're verging on changing our interaction from factual (my dual proccessor 1Ghz Mac has been tested and shown to be faster than a 2 Ghz Pentium 4 in comparisons using Photoshop's Gaussian Blur filter), to personal (you are stupid for not thinking that Photoshop Gaussian Blur filter comparisons are the true measure of a computer's speed and value). The mods have to use their best judgement and it isn't always easy.
I've also seen a few times when the mods were asleep (they have to do that some times) and the thread went longer than it should.
I've seen at least once when I thought a Mod over-reacted and locked or deleted something too quickly but I honestly can't say I could guarentee I wouldn't ever be perceived as doing that myself. No one's perfect.
You'll find we have many of the characteristics of a family here. We have good days and bad days. We occasionally fuss with each other or "run to our rooms and slam the door." We make up with each other. Sometimes as people grow and change they move on. You'll see much of the best and unfortunately sometimes a little of the worst sides of humanity.
Welcome home! You won't be bored.
Before they made me they broke the mold!

"I've seen at least once when I thought a Mod over-reacted and locked or deleted something too quickly but I honestly can't say I could guarantee I wouldn't ever be perceived as doing that myself. No one's perfect." I've also seen where a Mod declared they'd made a mistake & apologized for hasty action, in locking a thread, also. Sometimes they mis-read a post in a long thread, and mistake a running joke or something as a problem. Mods are human. Most of them here are also pretty cool people, but they are human. Any real problem you're involved in; take it to IM (Instant Messaging) or Email, and 97% can be resolved in short order.
i think your find that the actual request itself is deleted, what would follow it would be a general "whos a plonker for asking here we know your going to get banned" type of answers to the silly "i've beatern the lock" type of answer. this type of thread is, i think, left as an example to what would happen if anybody came here with requests for warez, but it seems most of the people requesting warez are too stupid to do a search for the type of answer they will get, so most people have fun with them.
