One suggestion on your bug list is to include your OS and computer brand/specs because sometimes the bugs are specific to a particular system. There was a bug in the cola water texture in the animation that has been there since version 3d. Don't know if they fixed it yet in the patch, I'll try it later before I give details.
Sun Soft Shadows work for me except that the status of the switch doesn't save except with skies created from the default. Big bummer for batch rendering! Adding too many trees (say 12+) results in a corrupted Save file. The union of Volumetric objects produces artifacts. Volumetrics crash Bryce when used on Metaballs. As Stephen mentioned Bryce windows often lose focus but for me it happens in the Terrain editor. Bryce will continue to render after going to a mode-less dialog resulting in very unpredictable behavior in the dialog. Mac G3/OS9.2/500MHz/659MB for Bryce (5.01)
Dan- I have so far used about 56 trees in one render. Saved many times as I played with views. No problems with corruption. One thought - could duplication/reposition/size reduce the problem? Will take a peek at some of your other items. P4/1.8MHz/W98SE/512 MB/B5.01
Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!
Save files not saved. I'm running a P2 333mhz on Windows 2000 pro. I have saved files over 50 megs to a ZIP 100 disk that did not have enough room and 110 meg to a hard drive that did. The drive clicks and then stops. I get no notice that the save was complete/sucessful or not. When I can use the tools menus again I assume the save is finished. Sometimes I quit directly and the program asks "do you want to save changes?" I pick "no" because I just did or "yes" because I am now paranoid. Sometimes I make a few changes then quit and it doesn't ask me if I want to save. Sometimes I open the file up again and see the changes and sometimes not. The first time I was afraid I shut the program down too quickly so I have been allowing extra time. I can't find anything consistant I can do or not do to assure the file was updated. The lack of a finished statment or error window is also discomforting.
I don't agree about the RAM causing CTRL-Z probs (or rather I DO agree, but it's certainly not the only reason CTRL-Z messes up.) I reckon it's also down to bad queueing of undo operations (one starts before the other finishes). I try never to use CTRL-Z at all, but if I accidently press it twice on more complex scenes Bryce will usually crash. I've had it crash with a single press, when it tried to undo before it had completed the operation in the first place. The reason I'm saying it can't always be memory is that I have 1Gb of RAM - so how much d'ya need??? ;)))) All the bugs I've found (main ones are soft shadows / CTRL - Z / focus / light gels / volumetric artefacts) not only happen in Bryce 5.0 and 5.01 but also in Win98 and XP. But I've never used Bryce on anything else, though, so I'm sure there are platform-related differences, especially between PC & Mac.

I'm making a list of known bugs in Bryce 5, these are what I have so far. Does anybody know of any others that can be reproduced every time. Thanks. Soft shadows ( sky lab ) only works with the default sky. Select any other sky from the preset library and it does not work. Light gel, if you apply a light gel and save the project, the light gel can not be removed and saved without the gel. The gel reappears on the light when the project is reopened. DTE, if you click on the combination window to bring up the library menu, then enter the library afterwards, and try to switch from installed to user library, the library falls behind the DTE window.
