One of my first images posted in Renderosity is called 'The last breath'. The story there is self explanatory.

that picture is so touching it's not the absolute best in graphics quality, though it's pretty damn close, but the story in it so painfully clear even death cries i don't know if it's voting time yet or if voting has finished a long time ago, but i'd definitely vote for this one

Technically, this challenge was never going to be voted. It was just an open ended challenge to create more images with some substance in them. It all started out of the joke about the nude woman in a temple with a sword. No story there, and then Pablo posted a very nice image of a mom going off to war and saying goodbye to her preschooler. That touched off an interest in images, like this most recent one, that actually shows some sort of action going on, with multiple figures interacting together. Not just a single figure posing, staring at the camera. Norman Rockwell comes to mind, with his Thanksgiving Dinner picture of a family actively enjoying their meal. There's a story there. There aren't any prizes for this one, it was just a wish by some people to see some real creativity in the gallery. I hope that doesn't disappoint anyone. It's great to see new images still trickling in. Thanks to all for participating. Some excellent images have come out of this and I think everyone is a winner. Melanie

It's good to see open challenges like these. It gives a chance to people who miss a challenge or do not have time or ideas during the time of a challenge to still participate.

a simple story....

Well here's my story then.All modelled in Imagine3D,and all textures are Imagine procedurals,with the exception of the 2 background trees which are images on planes.The swing tree was created in a progranm called tuby,www.trionix.fr which outputs .dxf files that most 3D programs can use,and the leaves on the tree are the branches ,turned into particles which uses a leaf object in place of the procedural particles(sphere's,cubes,etc),and sized to fit the tree.Motion blur on the tube swing and child were done in PhotoShop,as was the border.Nice story eh?

hmm it seems the motivation here is the age old addage of "show dont tell". Hey Mel, why not up the bar. . .have folks not include any sort of exposition when they post the work. In other words, don't TELL us the story in the description. There are a few posts that include a pargraph or more of explanation. Let the images speak for themselves. i am working on a bit for this challenge as well. At one time i had ambitions to be a writer so i fully believe in exercising the "show don't tell" muscles. If anyone is racking their brains for material i reccomend reading Scott McLeod's "understanding comics" and anything you can find by Wil Eisner. They both really help with fine tuning your visual story telling. and Stranger. . . you happened to name work that speaks volumes of story. Chardin always told a story, and the Mona Lisa is an ageless enigma backed by some of the most intense soap opera style drama ever dreamed of. There is nothing ordinary there. You can toss Rembrandt and Michelangelo among the top visual story tellers ever too. If you dont think they are then i urge to go visit the Cistina at the Vatican. . worlds largest comic with the one message being "pride goeth before the fall" or better yet "hubris lays the path for destruction" -for all you christians out there >:)- im not even going to get into rembrandt, if you cant see the stories there, then you are blind. ok thats my rant. . .sorry >=)
