Subject: Poser Animations Anyone?

cat3dgrafx ( ) posted Sun, 04 August 2002 at 7:15 PM · edited Sat, 11 January 2025 at 5:58 AM

HI!!! I'm fairly new to Poser and have found this website Top amongst the thousands of sites across the net. I mainly got into 3D for the animation. I bought Poser not too long ago with the intention of doing Animations with it. But, since I have been searching for these types of projects I can't seem to find anyone doing animations with it. Does anyone do animations with this program or do they leave it to programs like 3DS Max. I really want to see Poser Animations. Any Takers???

Welcome aboard. I'm an animator. We're outnumbered by the, uh, non-animators, but we're around. Some of us render our animations entirely in Poser; others do the animation in Poser and then export to other applications for rendering.

I recently posted links to some of my work at the request of Bobasaur. You can find them in this thread.

Little Dragon, wolf359!!! You guys are super talented. I loved them. Definitely gets your spirits up. I recently completed one of my "stills" to just get a feel of it. I plan on making it an animated trailer... What do you guys think?

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Sun, 04 August 2002 at 7:59 PM

Nice; it has the whole Dark Angel/Birds of Prey look going for it.

Let us know when the trailer is ready.

Me?

Thanks.

My Poser stuff can be found here. QuickTime is required.

My professional stuff isn't on the web. Yet.

To actually answer your question, I've used Poser to animate personal stuff. I recently bought the ProPack so I could render in Lightwave. It has a better renderer than Poser 4 (Poser 5 may change things). I am currently animating my first high end animation using Lightwave and the ProPack. It'll be done someday - I bit off almost more than I can chew and I keep finding myself here at Renderosity instead of working on it. ;-) One of my test renders is at the link.

I've found Poser to be much easier to use to animate characters than Lightwave. The interface is 100% oriented towards doing it. When I first got Lightwave (about 3-4 years ago) I'd heard it was excellent for character animation (that's not what I bought it for). As I got into it, I found that although it was an excellent piece of software, the parameter dials of Poser 2 were easier to use to pose figures. They made it easier to identify what was being moved in which direction. When you use programs like Lightwave you have to set up the relationships between all the bodyparts which can be quite tedious. With Poser, all that's built in. Thus, I didn't mess with character animation much at all in Lightwave. It was too much work.

The Poser models ("Posette" and "Dork") have improved over time and you can buy ready-made models (like Mike, Vicky, Stephanie and a few others) that are much higher quality (once again, Poser 5 will up the ante).

Poser has improved alot since I first got it - and the future looks bright.

Welcome aboard, and if you have any questions, fire away (although I must admit, your still looks more high-end than anything I've done in Poser).

Hey guys, We're trying to come up with enough content to put together a looping video for the Renderosity booth at DragonCon. Check out the "video loop" related threads in the DragonCon forum. It would be a great place for previews. I'm hearing numbers like >20k people passing through.

Thanks For the Support Guys!!! It definitely helps when you got someone to look to in times of need. Hopefully I can get my stuff posted soon at my new website called The Eternal Night Life. It's still under some construction but I hope to soon be able to have it up and running... Thanks Again. CAT

Hey thanks for the plug Wolf. Yes we animators are few in numbers, but not in content. I have a couple of little animations on my non adult site that you can check out at the link above. One is my first animation that I ported to World Builder. It's posette paddling a kayak down a river. The Poser part was easy... can't say the same for World Builder though. The other one is a test I was working on. Think you will like it. I do have a bunch on another site that I can't list the addy to here. If you're interested send me a message and I will send you the link. Ed

Very Nice Ed!!! The Kayak Paddler looked great... I though although have to admit the Bikini going off was done very nicely... A quick bedroom background and it's a winner... Email me the link to the others to view... CAT

Animator Dave checking in!

Thanks Wolf for the mention, I'm proud to be one of 'Rosity's small but dedicated animation team! :-)

Just to echo everyone else's thoughts, it's true that Poser animation is in a minority here, but you won't find a better site anywhere on the 'net for talent! Tons of good stuff here, and all themes covered!

Poser 5 should raise the standard even higher, especially with all those fab new features built in, not to mention the improved rendering ability! (Yeahhhhh!!!)

Welcome aboard CAT, and to everyone else - Happy Rendering! May your keyframe Interolation be super smooth and your Splines just fine. ;-)

Dave
