Subject: Note to anyone who lives near San Francisco!!

Ikyoto ( ) posted Mon, 06 March 2000 at 6:15 PM · edited Fri, 24 January 2025 at 12:39 PM

I'll be out there from Sunday the 26th to Tuesday night the 28th. Anyone want to show me a good place to get diner (cheap) or a good place to get lunch? (I love sushi and a good cup of coffee!) Subtle hint to one of the Poser ladies... you said you'd buy me a danish. I'll find you and hold you to it!

Hi I live in that area-not sure if I can go or not. I am starting a new job and moving during that time. If I go it will likely be last minute. I will look for a badge that says "Ikyoto" you look for a badge with the name Eric Walters-of course my real name is Xenomage or somesuch. :-) Eric Walters

Hey Ikyoto, if you're ever in Greece, I'll buy you souvlaki!

Ikyoto ( ) posted Mon, 06 March 2000 at 8:00 PM

There's a resturant in Buffalo, NY called the Towne and they have been a favorite place to get souvlaki for decades. (Damn it, where's my car keys... thanks a lot Kalypso! Now I just gotta have one. And all that feta - and the olives that are as big as your eyeball.... yum!)

Don't start! My personal fantasy is walking into a NY deli and getting a REAL bagel!!! It's been too long.

Ikyoto ( ) posted Mon, 06 March 2000 at 8:13 PM

Mastmans Kosher deli at the corner of Colvin and Hertal Ave here makes the BEST bagels. It's a half hour one way (and headed away from the office at that!), but at least twice a month I get to work late.... and the cream cheeze I pick up at the market on the way, while the bagels are still warm... ARRGGGHHHH!!!! I hate you! Why do you mention things that make my arteries clog just from think about them????

AAAAARRRGGGH to you too! At least you can have your bagel and eat it too! And your souvlaki! Flame flame flame! Umm do I still get a pagoda?

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Mon, 06 March 2000 at 8:23 PM

Are you going to be in the city proper or in the general vicinity, Ikyoto? And just how much spare time are you gonna have? Cuz I just might consider meandering on across the bay to say howdy. Kate

DTHUREGRIF ( ) posted Mon, 06 March 2000 at 9:48 PM

Hey Ikyoto, I'll buy you a Danish. Or maybe even some sushi. Where will you be staying? Maybe you and Kate and I can get together for lunch or dinner on Sunday. There's a great sushi place about 5 blocks from me. Diane

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2000 at 12:13 AM

I'm up for that, Diane, but you guys can do the sushi thing on your own grin Just let me know when and where and I'm there. Kate

LoboUK ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2000 at 4:59 AM

Damn it, will you guys stop discussing food! I'm like 190 miles from anywhere that's even HEARD of sushi and you can't get bagels and cream-cheese for love nor money here in the UK. So stop it, okay? (Please???) Paul Now very very hungry :)

EdW ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2000 at 6:10 AM

Hey Ikoyto I think there are enough things to do over in the city to where you won't need to find that book store.... Big Sly Grin.... I didn't realize there were as many of us from around the Bay Area. We could almost have a mini convention if we decided to. I live across the bay and never go there except for the Giants and 49ners games. It would give me a reason to get on Bart and go for a ride. Ed

Ikyoto ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2000 at 7:32 AM

Kate and Diane - email me so we can make real plans - you to Ed. I'll have tight time, but I'll be staying in SF itself at my sister-in-laws while I take care of some web site stuff. I got a telecommuting contract and they want to meet me face to face.

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2000 at 9:47 AM

Well too cool, you guys. Ikyoto, I'll drop you an e-mail in a bit. EdW, when the weather settles down to where I can break out the grill, I just might have to invite all the "local" poser folk to a BBQ/potluck or something equally mundane, what say? Kate who prefers to see S.F. at a distance, preferably through her kitchen window grin

EdW ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2000 at 10:19 AM

Kate that sounds like a great plan... Know what you mean about liking the view of the city from a distance. :) Ed

Okay, Lobo..... Bangers and Mash, anyone? -sk

arcady ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2000 at 2:54 PM

Sushi Rock on Polk and Sacramento if you're looking for good Sushi. Large servings at good prices. Avoid Japan Town's restaurants. -San Francisco native. Born here.

Good coffee shop on Clement and 5th ave too. Called Toy Boat. About 5 blocks from home. Coffee, toy figures (movie/tv action figures mostly), and Ice Cream. What more could you want? :) Oh, and the Sushi place I mentioned serves all kinds of Japanese food and not just the raw fish stuff. :) My wife works as the office manager for the owners of it and a few other SF restaurants.

Wow! A San Francisco native. What a rarity! Just being a native Californian has always made me feel unique.

Ikyoto ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2000 at 6:45 PM

Hell, just being able to claim at least partial parentage from Earth is a wowser for me.... Ok Diane - how about we find a way to hit Sushi Rock Sunday for lunch? Then you can show me around and we hit the coffee place. Anyone else in the area? I'll have me camera, so be warned...

DTHUREGRIF ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2000 at 8:28 PM

Sounds like a plan, as long as you keep that camera pointed AWAY from me!

Ikyoto ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2000 at 9:01 PM

Ok - point me towards a really good place to get textures.... (hehehehe... the voice of G will be played by....) And I have mimic to! I'll see if I can get a good tape recorder!
