Subject: Poser 5 and Pro pack question

Taura Noxx ( ) posted Mon, 05 August 2002 at 5:50 PM · edited Wed, 05 February 2025 at 3:29 PM

Just wondering. Will Poser 5 negate the use of the Pro Pack? Will all of pro packs functionality be in Poser 5? If not what will the difference be? p.s this question could have been asked already but I have missed it. If this is so could you please direct me to the thread.

Don't quote me as being 100% certain Taura, as I having been trying to get a definitive answer myself. From what I can gather from people who know far more than I do my impression is that at least for now the communication directly between Poser and CDXL, Lightwave, and Max will (temporarily at least) be lost. I can't see CL waiting long to update this however, as users who are used to this communication with PPpack and P4 will be itchin' to get going again with P5. I could be wrong about this though... krimpr

By all indications and official posts by kupa, most of the features of the P4 Pro Pack will be a part of Poser 5, including multi-paned windows, the figure setup room, animated materials, and motion blur. I assume that P5 will stick with PNG thumbnails; I see no reason for the format to be changed again, since it works so well. I don't know about the plugin support for third-party applications like Vue, Cinema 4D, and so on. Guess we'll find out tomorrow.

In an earlier thread kupa said something about the conforming clothing part in P5 being similar to how it is now in the Pro Pack. Since I don't have the Pro Pack, I've been wondering; is it easier to make clothing conforming in the Pro Pack than in P4?

Except for the actual model-making of the clothing, you can do the entire conforming process inside Pro Pack. Import your clothing mesh, go to the setup room, load a figure's joint parameters from the Library, group your mesh (Pro Pack has an auto-group feature), and you're done, aside from the final step of endless tinkering and fine-tuning to get it perfect. If you aren't too picky, you can have something conforming in less than three minutes.

Thank you, Little Dragon. :) That sounds good. I don't know about the "not too picky" part though... Unfortunately I'm a hopeless perfectionist, (well, usually) so it would probably take me much longer ;)

Same here (the perfectionist bit).

Attached Link: Poser 5 and Pro Pack

There's an answer to the Pro Pack question in the Poser 5 product area of the Curious Labs website.

Thanks again kupa. I have an idea Poser 5 will be a hot seller. You've done a good thing about keeping the price affordable even for "the little guys" like me. I just know you'll sell enough copies to make that decision pay for Curious Labs. In all my computer years, I've never seen a software company that is as involved and supportive as Curious Labs. Thank you again for all your help and involvement.
