Subject: Kupa, please tell me this is a mistake!

I was overjoyed to see that I might be able to upgrade from Poser3 to 4 for $59 ( about 40ish) but didn't hold out too much hope, thought I might get a good deal though. So I checked the UK price at Curious Labs and guess what? 135.12!!!! What's that? About 90 post and packing? Please tell me these prices haven't been updated yet and us Europeans will get a decent discount too. PLEASE!! Oh and congratulations on P5, it is an extraordinary achievement and a great price. I just hope you can sort out a decent UK price for that though, because a similar markup there is really going to screw your sales! Baz

well 180 cdn seems a bit steep for s&h of a program in a box, that is roughly what 90 quid works out to. which would be roughly 120 us. still seems a bit steep for the s&h

If you get it shipped from Germany (egi.sys) then you won't have to pay for import duty to the UK. S&H should be cheaper too... later jb

What about getting shipped from Germany to Denmark. Does the same rules apply? The price from the CL store, shipping to DK, is almost the twice as much as it cost in the USA, so sadly it will be awhile before I can afford Poser 5. But I have a question for you too Kupa. Howcome CL don't make it possible for your costumors to download directly from your website? It would save you some money for manuals and handeling, and your costumor would have their product very quickly. (and us poor Europeans would save some money)

Well, prices in Europe seem to be double the price from the US. Just take a look at the reduced prices for poser4. In the us $179 in Europe 360 euro's. So it will be a while before I can afford Poser 5 too.

The European prices on the website don't seem to have been updated (yet). Bear in mind that yesterday, the US price for P4 was $219. CL seem to have an official European distibution network (presumably through Egi.sys). If you buy from the CL website the order gets passed to these local distibutors, so duty and transatlantic shipping are not a factor (shipping is already included in the price). Additional sales tax (VAT) will, however, be added over the listed euro price. ProPack had a good 50% markup over the US price, which simply couldn't be explained purely by the additional cost of shipping. There may be a distributors fee, but, in that case, it was way too high. Nevertheless, CL have shown themselves to be extremely responsive to their customers concerns, so there is good reason to be optimistic that, this time round, things will be handled better. Bill

A simple example was that before us was updated in CL store p4 was $219 and the uk one was 205 pounds +35 tax (add on respective posting afterwards not relavent here), at current rough exchange rates that makes $375 , then you add on shipping for both (and prob still get charged VAT on top of tax for uk and a cusotms inspection charge). Most software is worked out that badly for most european /australian places, Americans dont know how good they have it for software (not including all the free mag stuff). Im guessing the UK *upgrades.co.uk or computer unlimited will have p5 upgrade for around 150 from p4 after a bit of time and there be no shipping or anything to add there. The people who have got ripped off are anyone who recently upgraded from p3-p4 expecting p5 and the difference for upgrading now is just $30 and recently upgrade pricing for 3-4 was around $130 here (not including magazine offers), so there about $100 out, as for anyone who recently went from p4-pro pack well they prob be a little bit more angry than the p3-p4 folks. Anyway in the end $179 from p4-p5 is a fantastic price, just cant help think its not very balanced.

I'm tempted to say stop whingeing only I don't think I can spell it right. So what if we have to pay a bit more than they do, we live in a much nicer part of the world and anyway it's a fabulous upgrade that we've waited so long for. Be happy...

djuke ( ) posted Tue, 06 August 2002 at 10:55 AM

Hmmmm Saxon I wonder, what do you know about which part of the world is the best place to live? I for one should not complain, but I have several friends that live in Russia (Europe) and I can tell you that they would rather live someplace else. So that statement sounds really stupid to me. Fabulous that Poser 5 is finally about to released! Could not agree more with you there. I just have not decided yet if I will wait until next summer to buy it in DK, or order a planeticket next month and go get in the USA, and STILL save some hard earned money. But please tell me, why should I pay twice as much as my neighbour to the south (Germany)or any place else for that matter, for the exact same product? Ohhhhh I got it, the taxman says so, well I'm glad the internet-taxman-dude-I'll-take-your-money, are'nt here yet. Peace
