Subject: Poser 5 new figures come only with Facial Morphs, DAZ figures still Reign

Mitch1 ( ) posted Tue, 06 August 2002 at 7:06 AM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 4:47 AM

New In-product Content Poser 5 includes new male, female and children figures. All are highly accurate 3D human figures featuring fully articulated hands and feet, photo-realistic texture maps and facial morphs. Poser 5 also includes a diverse collection of new clothes and props.>> As I understand from Curious Labs website and the images they have up I can see these new figures don't make DAZ figures obsolete at all. What I understand Curious Labs have done is up the quality of Posette and Dork to the current standard of Michael, Vicky and Steph visually but if you want to have the versatility and functionality of multiple bodytypes, age, etc. you still have got to get the DAZ figures. I say this is fair for DAZ. As a recent owner of Victoria and Mike 2 I feared I might be wasting my money once Poser 5 came with figures that would made my buy obsolete and I'm relieved that's not the case. Now my question is, are these new figures segmented like Poser has always used or are the one piece. Also are they still poligons or are they nurbs? I would assume the new figures are still segmented and poligons but I'm asking just in case.

ah hah!!!! i KNEW that male in the first teaser was the dork!!!

Mitch1 ( ) posted Tue, 06 August 2002 at 7:17 AM

I don't think it is the dork, it must be a new figure but it will probably have the same ammount of morphs as the dork from Poser 4.

Does it say no body morphs? Or does it merely touch on the high points? The information on the website fills in several gaps, but can't possibly cover everything. That is what manuals are for! Anyway, Steve has mentioned the number of polygons. He has provided a picture of the texture map as well as a couple of renderings of the nude male. I have seen the female. She is quite nice. I did not ask about children or animals, because the thrust of our conversation was hair and not how many of what will be included. Remember that Steve said "backwards compatible". If they had gone with nurbs, nothing in this new program would work with anything from the old program, would it? They've walked a fine line of improving and upgrading without completely abandoning tens of thousands of people who have spent small fortunes on models and textures. Carolly

To minimize confusion, I should add, that Steve was not the one who showed me the female, so I may have been a bit more restrained in my questions than I would have been if the boss was there. I tried not to take advantage of it.

Body morphs is a MAJOR feature of a 3D model, I don't think they would have left that out, it only would have taken adding a word to their text <<photo-realistic texture maps, BODY and facial morphs.>>

Like this: "photo-realistic texture maps, BODY and facial morphs."

I find it odd that so far CL has been very quiet about the figures. I was hoping that we would see soft-body dynamics, gravity and inertia similar to the cloth and hair but so far no mention. Even something similar to that PAE utility that added these effects would suffice. Obviously if it hasnt got these now its way too late. When`s the Poser 6 wishlist due to start?

Kelderek ( ) posted Tue, 06 August 2002 at 8:50 AM

Hey, can't we just wait until we see the shipped Poser 5 instead of start making assumptions? Analyzing the information in the Curious Labs website word per word is not a good basis for assumptions on what is possible or not on a detailed level.

Tsk tsk tsk ... Poser 5 is not out yet and some people are speculating about improvements for Poser 6. Well well - lol The order of acting should be: FIRST: Have a look THEN: Drool (or not) AFTER A WHILE: Thinking about what to improve :o)

Routledge ( ) posted Tue, 06 August 2002 at 8:55 AM

Of course we could but wheres the fun in that! Personally Ive always found that if the blurb dont mention it, it dont include it. Im really looking forward to Poser 5 and if Im proved wrong I`ll be a happy man.

The above comment was in response to Keldereks entirely sensible comment. I was hoping that Kupa (when he comes back next) or someone would jump in and say "of course theres body dynamics, dont be silly". As for Schlabbers comments, I seem to have skipped a step being already at the drooling stage. (Wipes chin)

hmm - lol - you'll see sooner or later Routledge ;o) - it's that's awfull/wonderfull christmas gift feeling - or not :o) ??
