Subject: Will P5 make custom facial morphs obsolete?

Sorry if this has been brought up, I skimmed through the forums but didn't see anything... I'm just wondering if anyone out there has any idea if the new Morph Putty will basically make all of the custom morphs that everyone has developed obsolete? They make it sound like it'll be a snap to create new morph targets. Or do people think it'll still take some 'talent' and the right eye to use the tool? I'm really just curious and I'm not sure how I feel about it at this stage. Any insight? Jennifer

I think it'll be like Magnets - it takes a steady hand. Also, some morphs, like eye morphs, may need exact point-pushing, so I don't think it'll replace custom morphs, entirely.

Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!

There are a lot of people out there who can't even create a decent POSE! I don't see them creating good morphs, either, no matter how easy the tools are to use. There will always be a demand for skilled modelers.

If it saves time and looks good, people will buy it. (Heck, people have bought some downright fugly things, too.) Convenience is always good. I've bought packages that I knew I could make, but either didn't have the time/patience, and I've bought items that I would never have thought of creating myself, but immediately saw uses for, the same with morphs.

I wonder if the way that P5 will bring accessable face morphing to the masses will engender new flurries of identity copyright issues? I'm relatively unfamiliar with what existing laws say but can imagine an increase in the buzz on this topic as a result of P5. Hey x2000 Sorry I called you a troll when you were trolling. :) I agree with your comment in this thread.

actually, there was a free program...photo modeller, lite, i believe, that seemed to do pretty much the same thing. i think i have it on a cd somewhere. however, poser 5 will do this: make me rich. find my daughters wonderful husbands clean my birdcage. do my laundry. mop my floors, and, vacuum. cure all my ailments and, and, and.... make me a great artist....otherwise, i probably would want a refund. Pop...Pop...Poppi!!!

oh, yeah....AND, keep my damned clown satisfied when i am too busy playing on the computer to "keep him company"...his words, not mine.

No problem, Xoco. I do get a bit... naughty at times, but I mean well;) Yeah, I've tried Photomodeler, too. And let me tell you, the modeling-from-a-picture thing isn't all it's cracked up to be. Not that it's not a nice addition to Poser, but if you can't do morphs in a standard modeler, I don't think you're going to do much better with this. Frankly, there are freeware programs that could have made custom morphs obsolete long ago, but they didn't. Some people don't have the time, some people don't have the skill, and some are just too lazy. Hell, I LIKE making morphs, but I still use a lot that I picked up long ago. Why make your own when someone else has already done what you would've made anyway? Why do Mike 2 and Vicki 2 sell so well, when all they really offer is more morphs? Because so many people simply don't want to bother. Christ, people buy poses and lighting sets (which absolutely amazes me)! I don't see the demand for custom morphs changing one bit.

Why make your own when someone else has already done what you would've made anyway? 'cause i am a kind of purist at heart. and, it is fun to do... i don't feel like i made a real work of art, unless 70% or more of it is my own creation. just nuts, i guess. and, the madness started with kpt scene builder, long ago...when i saw that i COULD, if i tried real hard.

Nah, not nuts at all. I pretty much feel the same way myself these days. In fact, just the other day I trashed a couple CD's filled with freebies I'd collected. Other than some morphs, I pretty gave up on freebies altogether. But not everyone is so ambitious... I still can't believe some people don't create their own poses in Poser. And lighting sets?!? People actually PAY for lighting sets?!?!?!? God help us all.
