Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 26 1:43 pm)
Win2K Pro on 3 main systems, Win XP for home on notebook, not my choice, and Win98 on one of my other test machines. Happiest with Win2K Pro. Use Explorer 6.0 with the exception of two sites which will not work unless I use Netscape, Daz being one of them and this just recently started so it must be something new on their end. I don't know why so many people hate B. Gates, he's a businessman, he does good business. If you will notice AOL/Time Warner has the DOJ looking into their business too, and I think more will be coming under the scrutiny of the DOJ since this thing has happened with all these companies committing fraud. I buy Microsoft products because I like them, and I haven't found anything yet that compares to them. Every program has bugs, so you deal with them and move on. Marque
I almost skipped this one, but just for the random amusement value of being different: At home, Mac OS X 10.1.5. (With Mozilla 1.1b, by the way. IE is probably 2nd best, but Mozilla's tabs are addictive. I'm surprised IE hasn't stolen them yet.) At work, Tru64 UNIX V5.1 on an Alpha. Also with Mozilla 1.1b. (Though my lowly EV6 chip is no longer the fastest on the planet, it's still faster than most. It'll never run Poser, though... ;-) )
Oh, and I don't slam other OS's like Mac and Linux, I don't worry about what other people like to use as long as we are somewhat compatible. Some people like to wear spiked hair and rings in their noses, some people like to dress up in the latest fashions, I don't do it but I don't care if someone else does. If it works well I use it, if it doesn't I can it. Marque
Kelderek: On the "85% MSIE," below are the browser statistics for www.geekantics.net. The only "significant" content on that site are 53 "free stuff" items offered here and a couple of other "poser centric" sites. Most of the "hits" come from people looking through the free stuff area here, which dowloads the corresponding thumbnails. The site has been on this server since mid June.

jchimim, according to recent IDC statistics (Q1 2002), Apple holds a market share in the US of 3.48%. I have no worldwide figures, but I doubt they differ significantly from that. They have a higher penetration in the graphics market, they focused very early on this market and still has a strong presence there.
jchimim, Mac has only become a good system for 3d since the advent of OSX, so a 3d forum probably isn't the best place to test this! I think 'graphics people' refers to the publishing industry and even there I think it's more like 50/50 mac and windows these days. It varies throughout the world too. Here in the UK publishing is still mainly Mac. This survey was done a few months ago and if I remember rightly this site had a higher than average number of Mac users but it's still mainly windows, about 20-25% Mac I think. Baz
WinXP Home and IE6 here :o)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
Home is XP Home and IE6. Work is XP Pro and IE6. Have not had a creash since XP was loaded. Laptop is only one still using Windows ME. Don't use it for graphics anymore.

Mac OS 9.2 at home (I'll migrate to OSX when the Mac version of Poser 5 comes out) Windows 95 (yes, I know they ought to upgrade but that's not my decision) at work (but I never use Poser there) IE both places

Win 2K on two machines, XP Pro on the third. All rock solid, with no crashes. IE on all. Microsoft all the way and happy with it. Years ago I used to buck the trend. I owned many Amigas and Atari ST's. I even owned a Mac back in the monochrome days. Funny how back then, when there was some <> choice in the marketplace, everybody wanted to flock to Microsoft like lemmings. If you argued the merits of anything else, you were shot down in flames. Today, now that there's no longer any viable choice, everybody seems to hate Microsoft. People are funny that way. As for me, I don't care. I just want to get my work done.
Win 2K with no intention for XP at the moment.

Just curious, what OS and Version are people running on their "main" machines? Win 2K here... (I showed you mine, show me yours? :) (And you may or may not find this interesting: 85% of the folks surfing 'rosity free stuff are running MSIE as their browser)
