THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: B4- Organising presets

Can you tell me, is there any way the presets {sky-materials-objects} can be organised a little better? Add more categories, shuffle them around, etc.? I'm asking this because I've downloaded just about everything that looked intresting or useful from this site and it adds up to be a hefty little load... something that can be a little bit confusing.

Hmmm...in bryce 4...I have bryce 5 and there is a way to do this so it may work in version 4. Go into the bryce folder under presets and look for a file called user.obp or user.mat or user.bsk depending on which area you are in. Then just duplicate that file and rename it and the new category will be made in the appropriate folder in bryce. Then just re-add all of your presets into the right category (can take a while) and delete the old ones. Dunno if this works but have a go anyway :)

Tried that {some time ago, actually}, no go. :(

There is a program called "Bryce Librarian" available at wolfiesden.com which allows you to swap preset library files in & out of the Bryce presets "on the fly" while working in Bryce. I've used it ever since I was on Bryce 3. I have about 50 different preset library files and swap them in and out of the "Boolean, Mountains, Tutorial, & User" categories all the time. I have the library files in the "storage" area organized by type of prop, i.e. about 2 dozen for different architectural elements, several for trees, etc., and so forth. I've found that by dividing them by class and having lots of libraries I can keep the size of each individual library obp down to around 50 Mb - makes for quicker swapping and doesn't eat so much memory when loaded in Bryce. Until I can afford a new computer and upgrade to Bryce 5 to get the library structure available there, this is the next best thing. It does objects, mats & textures, but not skies.

Maybe adding new files in the directory of the libraries works. It works for Bryce 5. Don't know about Bryce 4.

NOPE, it does NOT work in B4 (nor B3). That's why Wolfie invented the Bryce Librarian.

I never got that adding a library technique to work in B5 or B4. Took a look at wolfiesden, didn't see the library tool, got a direct url?

http://www.wolfiesden.com/flash/main/frdownloads.html Third from the top. Might need to download the VB runtime files if you hadn't already.
