Subject: Compile a cd.....

Shiby561 ( ) posted Thu, 08 August 2002 at 11:27 PM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 11:32 AM

I am going to compile a CD of peoples poser/bryce artwork for backgrounds of a desktop to maybe sell/auction or something. I know it sounds like a rip off because I cant give money to every person who gives me thier artwork, it would get way to complicated. It is your choice if you wish to donate your work, I wall however put your name on the CD giving you credit for your work. If you would like to donate your work post your picture here with its title and the name youd like it to be under on the cd if i decide to actually make it. I could of just made it without telling people I took thier work but that stealing so I ask you here. I will put mine on there but I dont do very good yet. Please do not post your artwork or others on here Please dont post a picture if you dont want it on the cd

Shiby561 ( ) posted Thu, 08 August 2002 at 11:30 PM

Oops the first *'s was ment to only say Please do not post others artwork here unless you have thier permission hehe by al means post yours hehehe LOL.

Not a bad idea though I would make a interface with each artist having a page that leads to A) their store B) Gallery C) Webpage D) Email address Though I don't think you'd get away with taking anyone's work because we all kind of find out about it. And then You'd be in real trouble. Not sure that you'd get any takers on it though since You'd be the one profiting

darkphoenix ( ) posted Thu, 08 August 2002 at 11:54 PM

im sure some people would consider posting there work the same way they would to a calendar or something, but i doubt they'd like the idea of a cd for sell. Maybe if you sold it in the marketplace for a high enough price to support renderosity and pay for shipping, but not for any personal profit. I know I would have no problem donating an image myself, but not so you could sell it and make money for yourself. I know I put a lot of effort into my work and make a decent paycheck on the side of my regular job because of it, so the idea of doing it for free so you could sell it instead just doesnt sound very fair. As long as you watermarked each image with the artists signature and included an email address for each image, and as long as you made it easily available for a large number of people without profitting yourself, it doesnt sound like a bad idea. And as far as just copying the images and distributing them without us knowing, the 3d community is pretty large, and i can guarantee you someone would recognize those images somewhere. Its not like no one has ever seen them before.

You know does this site have a donation page? maybe ill get the cd together and whatever comes out of it (could if not sold for enough come out of my pocket for shipping and handling) will be donated to renderosity. Thats a very good idea, I didnt think anyone would let me do it my way anyway hehe. Well rulez have changed people the money now goes to RENDEROSITY !!!! YAY. renderosity should be happier.

Shiby561 ( ) posted Fri, 09 August 2002 at 12:21 AM

O and i wouldnt steal anyway cause of 1) its just not right and 2) like you said someone would find out.

Sacred Rose ( ) posted Fri, 09 August 2002 at 1:39 AM

For what purpose will you be selling or auctioning this cd? What is the end result of the revenue that you will be making on it? Just wondering.........

Puntomaus ( ) posted Fri, 09 August 2002 at 4:02 AM

Shiby561, if you want to make this CD a donation item then Renderosity will sell it for you. It does not work the way that YOU sell it and send the money to Rosity. To the left is a menue - under the topic Renderosity you will find Selling Products where everything regarding sales etc. is explained in detail. For more info you can even contact the Rosity Staff. For the rest I am with SacredRose and join her in just wondering....

You said that you "could of just made it without telling people".......... YEAH DO THAT......... If you are in US territorials, you are definitely love to get a party invitation from the feds..... Make sure you put the right names ..... before the feds bust you out. In Europe, well....... read those copyright patents... cause getting 100 ppl collecting money to bust your ass is really a fun thing to do........ And trust me....... if that russkies.......... you are in "Big Sheep". Africa (except South Africa)....... whocares..... you could print it and stick it to a giraffe. Asia ? hmm.......... if you think you might be invisible outthere, dun worry.......... those arts will never ever reach any western countries which definitely bounded by copyright law. Your neighbour ? gee......... do that very silently... or expect some probation or even serving time picking out garbage under shotgun guard. the best way to do a "crime" is always........never get caught.......... "duh" Perhaps it's easier to send hundred of emails for confirmation rather serving corn and chips in a 2 by 4 cell ? (oh yeah that's the most expensive VIP room in gatthaca, and you'll get a lovely companion in there too for free)

deestilo ( ) posted Fri, 09 August 2002 at 4:16 AM

oh yeah....... whatever artwork you took from renderosity gallery,........ WATCH OUT....... The copyright goes to teh artist and not the renderosity site. Check out the copyright laws here : http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12395

kromekat ( ) posted Fri, 09 August 2002 at 5:25 AM

So let me try and get this straight... You want lots of people to say 'Yes you can have an image' so that you can personally profit from a CD collection of them!? Oh yeah - great, logical, well thought out and legal plan. hmmm Well thanks for asking... nope!

he just said that renderosity would get all procedes , i actually think it would be a great idea for renderosity o sell a compiliation cd of the best works here, anyone buying it would probably see a lot of art they hadnt seen before AND your work could be seen everyday on someones wallpaper. Of course, him getting the profits from it are out of the question , but I'm sure clint could make an arrangement in the marketplace so that no merchants get any procedes from sales, or perhaps every contributer could receive a portion of the sales, though that would raise the price of course. Its worth considering. He also already admitted to the stupidity of trying to take the work. So ya dont have to flame him anymore. However, if enough artists were willing to make an exclusive picture specifically for a compiliation cd, I know id be willing to contribute as well. The rules would be fairly simple, make an image representative of your best work, for which you get all copyrights of course, and donate it as an exclusive image to this cd, not available anywhere else. Then sale the cd in the marketplace, but not for any merchant, just mark it for charity or possibly make it a bonus cd for a special edition of renderosity magazine. That way, more peple would see your work, name recognition goes a long way, and no one person would really be profitting off your work. Instead of having shiby do it (ruined your chance fella) we could just have the renderosity staff put the whole thing together.

shadowcat ( ) posted Fri, 09 August 2002 at 7:55 AM

Give the guy a break will ya, he isn't stealing he's asking for donations. As far as we know the guy is out of work and desparate. Heck we all post images here to share with the world and not for any personal profit, so what's the big deal if this guy distributes them for profit? I doubt very much anyone can get rich burning art CD's but maybe he could feed his family or pay a bill. I'd donate but my images pretty much suck (I'm better at making stuff for others to use in their images)

sturkwurk ( ) posted Fri, 09 August 2002 at 8:02 AM

Not to go against the flow but... if you only sell at Renderosity and all proceeds go to charity (as denoted on the item) Then I'll donate several of my wallpaper images. Doug Sturk www.sturkwurk.com

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.

Marque ( ) posted Fri, 09 August 2002 at 8:45 AM

lol, if they only sell at Renderosity then they would have to be new images that have never been posted here, (otherwise I imagine a person could just pluck it off the site to use as a personal wallpaper). And what rights does the person have to the images after they buy the CD, can they use them for anything but wallpapers on their personal system, say commercially for coffee cups or t-shirts or magazine ads? This is something that has to be thought over very carefully, and I'm sure that everyone who donates will be expected to sign a release. As for flaming the guy, well you never know until you ask, he asked and got his answer. Marque

Look out, this guy is one of next years crop of corporate CEO's. Presenting a blurry and ill defined business plan which relies entirely on the work of others who are not necesarilly interested in participating, and barely involving them in the details while creating a situation for hiding loads of money for self gain while potentially damagine the public image of all those involved? Oh yeah, you are right in line for a job as the head of a telecom company. If you can find any, that is. ; )

3-DArena ( ) posted Fri, 09 August 2002 at 1:48 PM

Nope, don't think so. I'll definitely pass on this one. My copyrighted work is just that, mine (and I'm greedy about it). I generally offer my own desktops of my images - for free, from my own sites. I'm not about to let someone else make a profit off of it unless it goes to a charity I approve of (and renderosity isn't exactly a "charity" lol) and then I claim it on my taxes.

"Thats a very good idea, I didnt think anyone would let me do it my way anyway hehe. Well rulez have changed people the money now goes to RENDEROSITY !!!! "

and you question my request for more information on the proceeds?

ummmmm he changed his reason re what he was going to do with it, 3 times.

why do u not find this suspicious?

yeah..ok whatever!

Sacred Rose ( ) posted Fri, 09 August 2002 at 9:11 PM

note the words "MAYBE" and "I dont think anyone would let me do it my way hehe" and "rulez have changed people" give me a break!!! Thanks but no thanks, I'll pass as well.

WiNC ( ) posted Fri, 09 August 2002 at 9:43 PM

Well personally - if you are willing (and I mean 100%) to make it for donation I would probably include one picture for background purposes. however for your own profit - you have to be kidding right? If you want to sell a CD with people's work you NEED to give them credit, and you NEED to give them some profit. Other than that - forget it - no one would be that stupid to give you their work and pretty much give you copyright ownership over it so you can make a profit. WiNC

Virus ( ) posted Fri, 09 August 2002 at 10:13 PM

I'm agreed with Sacred Rose and WiNC this is too suspisious and if there is not a really payment to the original artists as result of the profits of the product it looks to me as a copyright infringement.

Crescent ( ) posted Fri, 09 August 2002 at 11:09 PM

If a well-known publisher came in and said, "Gee, we're looking at doing a large CD compilation of digital art, we can't pay you, but we'll put in all your contact information for exposure so potential clients could contract your services" then some people here might be interested. Some unknown coming in saying s/he wants to make money off of other people's work, just because they want to make money and may give credit if they're feeling generous, is ludicrous. Thanks for the laugh.

darkphoenix ( ) posted Fri, 09 August 2002 at 11:18 PM

i was saying forget shilby's idea of doing it all together and make something of our own, not that i was agreeing with him. I definatly think he was way out of the ballpark and said as much. I just thought for a moment that maybe the idea as a whole could be turned into something with merit if brought to being under different circumstances, and not related to his request in any case. A simple no thank you is quite sufficient in that regard. As for his request, i already stated my opinion on that idea in the first post i made.

WiNC ( ) posted Mon, 12 August 2002 at 3:19 PM

Crescent, The issue here is that payment from a WELL KNOWN publishing agent is usually the published work and the advertising. It is the same that while I work on my comic I am looking for people interested in supplying me free stuff (things that they would like me to "advirtise") so that they will get free advirting. I'm not famous however, which is why I don't expect many people who sell stuff to be interested. Now we have Shiby here - who has also only JUST started posting on Renderosity (under that name) and who at the time of posting had one of their own pictures up. We don't know this person, we don't know what this person is trying to do, and how do we know that giving this person our copyrighted materal (because like it or not - when you give someone rights to your work, it is very easy for them to abuse those rights) we are not going to be hurt... get a bad name against us... find our works being published elsewhere? See my point?
