This probably will make me look awful, but has anyone else noticed that while Oola is arguing with Jabba, she falls out of her outfit? It doesn't really matter since she's wearing a bodystocking, but I knew that thing wouldn't put up with abuse. All you drooling fanboys go check. ^_~

Now for the next bit ... I hope I have not dropped a clanger. As detailed in my readme the leash uses Easy Pose technology. In the same way as we often edit existing CR2's to match new models I adapted an Easy Pose item from the freestuff. Oola is not a commercial item, I'm giving her away for free. Ajax the author of Easy Pose has contacted me asking for clarification which I have replied to. I've made it clear that I'm very willing to address any issues. I don't think I got it wrong but I'm human. I'd rather be safe than sorry so until this is clarified I've removed Oola from my server, I'd much rather err on the side of caution.

Phil and I are working together to sort this out and I'm sure Oola will be available again shortly.

As I said I'm human and I did miss something, data that I thought was public domain wasn't. As noted in the original readme file the leash uses Easy Pose dials. I had not appreciated that I required permission to use them. Ajax the creator of the original coding has now very kindly granted that permission. I would encourage you all to visit his site, he has some truly amazing stuff there. A link may now be found on the oola page and in the readme file.

May I take this opportunity to publicly thank Ajax for the mature way he approached this situation. Yes I had dropped a clanger but he did not beat me over the head with it :)

Just to clarify, there's no problem with using EasyPose tech to build EasyPose figures. In fact I've even written a tutorial to help people do that. However my cr2s and derivatives of them can't be distributed without my permission. Phil now has my permission to distribute a derivative of the EasyPose Tube, so that's OK. I guess there's still a lot of confusion in the Poser community about when cr2s can be distributed and when they can't. As we find more ways to get useful results by hacking cr2s, non-distributable cr2s are likely to become more and more common, leading to even more confusion. I'll bet Poser 5 will give us even more opportunity to modify cr2s in unusual and useful ways. If I get a chance later I might try to write something on why some cr2s are distributable and others aren't. In the mean time, it's great to see another excellent freebie from PhilC. I know I always enjoy them :-) And thanks, Phil, for the links! I wasn't expecting that and I appreciate it very much.

Ajax, just a thought. password encrypted zip files that may contain information you don't want public ? not trying to be a "smart alec" but I'm interested in reading honest thoughts about encription as a means of protection. - TJ

I don't see how you would do that, bikermouse. Think about it in terms of pictures in the galleries. If the gallery were full of pictures in password protected zip files, there wouldn't be much to look at. If I put my free stuff in password protected zip files nobody would be able to use it. As a community we rely on honesty and mutual respect to keep our work safe. We all know not to distribute copies of each other's pictures and we all know not to distribute copies of each other's meshes. There's just a lot of confusion about when you can distribute cr2s and when you can't. Everybody knows you can't use someone else's mesh or texture to make your own without their permission, but because traditionally almost everybody has allowed distribution of cr2 files, people often forget that parts of the cr2 can be just as much an individual creation that belongs to it's author as a mesh or texture is.

Aye to that! I was thinking more in terms of commercial stuff where parts of the file, ie textures, could be zipped within the main zip file and bought seperately so all you as a vender would have to do is send them a key by email to unlock the zip when they paid for it. The question of non distributable portions of a CR2 would probably have to involve one of Maz' products and I'd rather not do that until I know he has resolved the issue of infringement. until then, Is there a list of dos and don'ts you would post or have posted regarding cr2s? -TJ

Oh I see. You mean make a non-distributable derivative cr2 distributable by encrypting it so only owners of the original can use it? Like what we do with obj mover when a mesh uses one that was made by somebody else? I think rcook and depacotez already made a free utility for that. We could do that in this case, I guess, but I'd rather just give Phil permission to redistribute. That's easier for everybody I think. It would be a good solution for commercial items though. The main thing is that if you're at all unsure of whether a particular cr2 can be distributed or not, ask the author. While I haven't generally allowed redistribution of my cr2s in the past, I don't know what DAZ's policy is for example. They've released some products with heavy cr2 modification recently, such as the new scuba set which I understand has an ERC based posing system similar to EasyPose. It probably wouldn't be very easy to adapt that cr2 to a different figure, though, so they might be quite relaxed about it in that particular case. Only they could tell you, so it's best to ask the author. In general, "warning signs" for non distributable cr2s are: If the cr2 contains morphs that didn't come with the original figure (eg Vicki 2 has morphs that weren't with Vicki 1, Boris has morphs that weren't with Michael, SMMV has morphs that weren't with Vicki etc). If the cr2 has EasyPose, heavy use of ERC or some other unusual modification that was done after the figure was made in Poser. If the cr2 contains the mesh of the figure, instead of the mesh being held in a separate obj file. Those are the main ones I can think of. The first and third situations would be automatic no-nos. The second one really depends on the nature of the particular figure and the feelings of the creator, so that's a situation where you would have to check with them.

Ajax, I went looking for your tutorial on how to make EasyPose-style figures, but couldn't find it. I did find your other tutorials... Maybe I'm just thick, but might you please post us a link if it's still floating around somewhere?
