Subject: Silly Zygote/P5 geometry Question

Yes, I know that Curious Labs, not Zygote is putting out P5. But I was looking at Zygote's website and I saw a model that I thought looked really familiar (below). It looked like the p4 dork. Then I remembered that when Poser 4 loads, it states "new models by zygote." I'm not saying that the P5 guy looks a lot like the Zygote Anatomy Man (above), but still, the zygote figure looks really familiar. So here is my silly question, did zygote help in creating the geometries for P5?

PS - I am greatly confused by all the interconnectedness of these companies associated with Poser. I know Curious Labs split off from Metacreations. Didn't Daz split off from Zygote?

This is what zygote is calling Anatomy Man, Version 1. It looks a lot like the dork to me.

Zygote was contracted to make the dork and posette, so the similarity between him and anatomy man is not a coincidence. Later, Zygote created Victoria and Mike. Curious Labs is what became of the Poser team after MetaCreations dissolved and sold off all their products to different buyers. Much of the Meta team went to CL, Kupa included. CL is owned by EGI Systems (www.egisys.de). Daz3D is a division of Zygote. Basically, the Poser portion of Zygote really took off, enough to warrant having its own team and site to look after it. Zygote's modelers are still cranking out models for all the non-poser 3D apps though, competeing in a pricier market with places like Viewpoint Data Labs. As for who made the P5 figures.. CL seems to be evading this question as far as I can tell. I haven't heard yet for certain who made them. -Adam

It definitely has "Dork's" face, and the hair thing going for it, but the body is different. This is interesting!

It seemed to me that Kupa somewhere stated that Zygote/Daz have nothing to do with the new P5 figures although I can't put my finger on the thread where I read it,so don't quote me on it.

The reason I asked if Daz was separate from Zygote is because when I went to Zygote's site and selected "Poser Content" a pop-up stated: "By choosing this link you have opened a window to DAZ Productions' website. DAZ Productions is a separate entity from Zygote Media Group, Inc."

Yes, the are a separate entity, separate founded, new partners etc.. Basically all of the Poser people at Zygote (Zygote Media's Poser Division) branched out to do their own thing, so to speak, since the Poser market was big enough to support them making just poser items (and brokering them). The link is to the full story if you're interested in exactly what happened in full detail. -Adam

Hi there, Cris Creak who is an accomplished medical illustrator is the man behind the human figures. Zygote was looking to close it's Poser department to focus on bigger fish so to speak. Michael bears remarkable respemblances to his male figure at Viewpoint as well. Since Cris worked at Zygote I imagine the still have work he created while he was there. Chris Creek and Dan Farr bought the content and opened Daz. The rest is history so to speak. The Poser content is liscenced to Curious Labs. The Poser male is a modified version of the P4 Male. Missed the last part. The reslemblance is only because the p5 male is based on the P4 male. Daz did not do those modifications.

The original Michael was modeled after Dan Farr's own face. I've wondered if the new P5 man is from DAZ, because it looked like the texture map in an early screen shot was very similar to Michael's. Melanie

Hi meleanie, Yes the templates are the same but P5 figures did not come from Daz. Meeting Dan in person was a bit odd at first. It was like talking to Michael. Anton

Thanks, Anton, for clearing that up. It just had me curious because I noticed the template looked like Michael's. I can imagine meeting Dan would be sort of startling. I spoke to him on the phone once, way back when Vicki was brand new, and I had no idea he would one day become the next Millennium figure. :) I was talking to Michael and never even knew it. LOL Melanie
