I'd say for guns that the origin should idealy be inside the trigger guard. Don Albert pointed that one out because the weapon naturally rotates around that part of the anatomy, it also seems more suitable somehow. :) Otherwise I agree totally with you. It doesn't take that much work to move the origin markers to the grip/handle/trigger.

See the Tips at my site. There is one for moving the point of origins when it seems stuck. It is easy to reposition this rotation point so that a prop works better with the hands. It can be helpful to Un-Parent the prop, move or rotate it, then Re-Parent it to a hand. -Donwell... i THOUGHT it was kinda obvious! ;) until yesterday, i was trying out a buncha weapons and NONE were done! nu-be, you do it right in poser. hit ctrl-i and check the 'display origin' box. the green crosshair thingy appears, and also some x/y/z dials to move it. once you're done moving it, hit ctrl-i and turn it back off. them green crosshairs annoy people ;) oh, and just before you save it to the library, please MEMORIZE it. you know, so when i hit shift-ctrl-f to restore my figure, the prop doesn't go back to being 20 feet tall and unrotated in the center of the scene? ;) thanks guys!

guys.... you've GOT to put the origin of the weapon prop in the GRIP. nothing's worse than getting a sword/axe/hammer/maul/mace/etc into somebody's hand, and then try to angle it slightly, only to find out the weapon rotates from the center of its length. even if you smart prop it so it pops into the hand -- that's very nice of you, thank you -- but even then, if you try to adjust the location of the origin after the prop is positioned and parented, the prop runs away as you move the origin, so you have to reposition everything all over again. even guns: the origin of the prop should fit inside the hand, when the hand is gripping it. heck, even for spatulas and kitchen utensils, and hammers and screwdrivers and anything! okay, you don't "GOT" to, but it would be SO much nicer. :)
