i have been using poser for about a year now and have been loving it. but recently the past few days i have been getting renders looking like the one pictured - and it is not right as you can see. this render was from a file i had saved a few months ago that rendered fine then but i rerendered it today to see if all of the files were having a problem or if it was just the newest one i was working on. to my knowledge i havent changed any settings or anything. i did have pro pack installed for awhile but i have had to take it off because my computer hard drive is nearly full however i don't think that has anything to do with the problem. i also have bryce 5 but i dont see where that could be doing this. please help! thanks!

I have a funny feeling that propack being missing is the problem. pz3 files act slightly different in propack to poser403, only answer is to either reinstall propack or redo the files. Rob

Poser will never work properly once you uninstall propack from it, because some dll files are overwritten that are never replaced during the uninstall. Reinstall Poser, and you ought to be fine.

it looks like its either a shadow....oh hang on i think Rob has it, try rendering it without bump settings and if it works its that problem with PPP bump maps making the figure look sooty ( a search here will answer that problem)...well its a good guess if its not that :o)......Steve

I'm not a poser person, but it looks like your computers been possessed :-P

One bug with ProPack is that when you save spotlights with distance falloff, it sets the maximum values to 1.0 and reduces the distance falloff settings this value if they were originally saved with a larger value than this. Despite being widely reported, this still wasn't fixed in the latest service pack (along with the renderer miscalculating distance falloff values for non-default camera lenses). The fix is to double click on the "Dist End" dial of the light and reset the maximum and the current values. Bill

it was those stinking bump maps! i forgot about that! and yes my computer is possessed! its mad at me for using up all the memory. well at least i found it now - thanks guys. so how do you like Violet Moon?

Poppi ( ) posted Wed, 14 August 2002 at 5:01 PM

it still isn't fixed. she doesn't look nearly as good as the render in the middle....her hand is distorted, and her hair isn't blended right...i still see a bit of the first one, here.

It looks like now it's just a camara setting difference, it seems more focused on her hand than her face.

Red_Baron ( ) posted Wed, 14 August 2002 at 7:51 PM

I've seen this problem b4. It's caused by bump maps, especially is a .jpg file is being applied instead of a .bum make sure to check your materials editor.

Poppi ( ) posted Wed, 14 August 2002 at 7:55 PM

.jpg file is being applied instead of a .bum my poser always converts the bump map...i think it could be a camera problem, as well...and, the lighting is off. wow...so glad i never got propack.

Red_Baron ( ) posted Thu, 15 August 2002 at 11:14 AM

there are rare instances when poser doesnt convert .jpg to .bum

kittykatz100 ( ) posted Thu, 15 August 2002 at 2:26 PM

yeah its actually just a different camera angle - i have been tweaking the file since so i am sure the camera has moved. i think there is a difference in the face though - and i like the first one better. i will be trying to get that fixed too.
