this is my latest model. Whenever my .obj file exceeds apprx. 50mbs in size, carrara starts to complain that i'm low on memory. Thus when i export, the mesh setting is set real low, and on the back of the car (right of the tail lights), u'll see some blemishes caused by that. I got 256mb ram. Any idea how to fix it??

Nice car ! To avoid memory problems, make sure you import in facets . Also, one advice : double the RAM (a least) ! It's definitively a good investment IMO . litst

Litst, can you explain the part about importing in facets? There are two options (facet mesh and vertex object) for wavefront.obj import. What are the advantages to using one or the other option?

it's imported as facets, does the smoother factor have anything to do? It's set at the default 30. Thanks litst, i will buy more ram.

If you import as vertex, you will be able to edit your objects in the vertex modeller . But Carrara will need a lot of datas so the model will display slower than with facets which only need basic geometry datas . Most of the time you don't need to edit your object, so stick with facets ! And even if you need to edit your model or a part of it, you'll still be able to convert it to vertex in the modeling room via the Edit menu . Last thing, the smoothing factor lets you define how edges will appear : creased (sharp) or smooth . The number you input is the angle limit . Again, very nice car but you should put some reflections on this shader, darien DX :) Later, litst

i will change the shader, since the model isn't finished yet. One more question litst before you go :) Whenever I tried to add some decals on the car in the material room, the when moving the model in preview window of the model is VERY VERY slow. Would an incrase in ram fix that?? Or how would it speed it up a lil, cuz between my click and the reaction is like a 10 sec delay. Thanks.

There are delays in the interface of Carrara :( . Most of the time they're short, but 10 seconds delays are rare ... In this case, maybe it's because your computer is too slow and the model too complex . Might be a RAM issue i don't know . What's your specs ? And what's the poly count on the model ? It may also be a little bug that cause the delay ... i haven't heard of a bug like that though . litst

p3 500 w/ 256mb ram, ati xpert2k graphics card. Sorry, i was exagerating a lil, it wasn't 10 secs, but definitely 5 or 6 sec. I guess i'll just upgrade my ram for now. thanks for the help.

Nice Ferrari man. It's lookin better. Only thing is that the rear wheel wells are smaller than the front ones, or so it seems.
