Subject: Texture Mapping Question???

kruzr ( ) posted Sat, 17 August 2002 at 12:47 PM · edited Fri, 02 August 2024 at 5:05 AM

Morning all . . . 8^) I have a, (simple ?), question regarding the application of a texture, onto an object in Vue 4.1. = Is there a way to "TACK", a texture onto an object, so when you move the object, the texture will move with it? Or, maybe I should ask the question this way, "I import a flat type object into Vue 4.1 - it is orientated up & down - so, before I apply the texture to it, I rotate the object so it is laying flat - then apply the Material & texture to it as, (Flat Vertical), with (Object Standard), so the texture is projected onto the flat face of the object - The problem is when I rotate the object back to up & down orientation, the texture also changes to being projected down, from the top to the bottom of the object, no longer being projected to the flat face of the object??? I hope I'm making discription understandable???...8^O Anyway, if someone could explain what I'm doing wrong, I would sure appreciate it. Thanks in advance for any replies & have a good one . . . Mark. . . . ;^)

Hi Mark:-) Try with AUTOMATIC, not FLAT VERTICAL. As I don't know what kind of object it is, I'm sorry not to be able to help more. Sometimes, objects created outside Vue needs a mapping with UVmapper to get it right. But this depends really on the object. Could you show it by a fast render and tell us in what soft you have created it, please? :-)Guitta

Mark ... if the textures stay in place when you move the onject, you probably have them mapped using 'worl' mapping. Open the texture in the materials editor, and change the mapping from 'world' to 'object'. This should do the trick.

agiel, Mark already explained that he has DONE that.

Look at the sign tutorial scene. Check the settings of the texture they used for the sign. Try to rotate the sign. It's on the disk. You know the Vue sign in the desert scene.

Good Evening all . . . 8^) Thanks to all of you for your replies. But I've quit trying to figure it out, & downloaded "UVMapper" to use for these types of things. Now I can import any object into Vue 4.1, with the "UVMapper" texture applied to it, & it maps & renders just fine. I just found it too much work, trying to find out what the right inputs to enter were, so the textures would map properly. Now using "UVMapper" there is no figuring out of anything. Once you create your image or texture map, in "UVMapper", import your object into Vue 4.1, then select the UVMapper image for mapping onto the object, everything falls right into place. Again . . . I appreciate all of your responses, & you all have a good one . . . Mark. ;^) PS: ( Hello Guitta, long time no talk. I bought Amapi 6 a couple of weeks ago, for modeling, & so far I really like it, but I've been spending most of my time learning it. Be sure to behave yourself, & I'll talk to'ya later. )

Ya that's probably the best method, works every time, no surprises.
