I have the ati 8500DV on a pc and bryce works just fine. Bryce actually doesn't use the video card much. What ATI is trying to target are the OpenGL renders like games and programs such as Pandromeda's Mojo World and various modelers that depend on OpenGL. ATI has been way behind G-Force in this technology with some very notable failures. ATI is getting better and they seem to be pushing it now with the new card. Games like Half Life CounterStrike used to lock up on ATI cards and the 8500 series card came with a free version the Half Life engine just to build confidence. I've used ATI since the 486 days when it cost $400 for a 4 meg Graphics Ultra Pro VLB card. The radeon chipset when it first came out was horrible. This 8500DV I have is quite nice and I have no openGL problems at all (other than maybe some slowdowns. But like I said, Bryce is processor dependent, not video, but who knows, maybe B6 will move towards OpenGL technology.

By the way, even though the final image in that scene looks like Bryce, I'm not sure it is. The Mobius goes from low poly to high poly to gray scale to final render. I don't think the low/high poly mesh came from Bryce. Maybe I'm wrong, but when I changed resolution settings in the terrain editor the mesh mobius didn't change.

To EricofSD: Bryce needs a fast video card like the Radeon 8500 when rotating a scene and scrolling around, etc. ATI caught up with Nvidia when the Radeon was released. Half-Life has a patch so it doesn't cause buffer over-runs on most ATI cards. The ATI 8500 is one card that can smooth out the Half-Life player models without any slowdown. Nvidia is behind in this matter. I'd say that ATI and Nvidia are dead even, except that ATI has better support. Only ATI sells ATI. Whereas Nvidia chips could be on any clone adapter card and the support is almost non-existant from the company that sold the card. Also, ATI does great DVD support (always has) compared to Nvidia. Any their cards work great with both DirectX and openGL (which makes sense because ATI has always been in the business of doing CAD). SHONNER http://www.shonner.com

Shonner, shonner. Bryce does NOT need a fast graphics card "like an ATI Radeon" to rotate around a scene... I use a pathetic Cirrus Logic NOT EVEN AGP card on my work computer, a Pentium 2/266 MHz, and it easily keeps up with all of the Radeons, GeForces, and even the Oxygen Labs cards I've used at home. My point is that at no time did the Bryce programmers even bother to access what gamers consider every day as true hardware acceleration. Even kids on their (now defunct) Nintendo 64's get this as a STANDARD. Perfect Dark looked better than Bryce in any preview mode, Open GL or DX8, on any graphics card. Period. No offense to anyone actually interested, but those pathetic sceenshots ATI has posted don't do a thing for helping me position grass and effects, when THEY DON'T EVEN SUPPORT TEXTURES, in any way! Pathetic. I'm done whining now. (bows)
