For quite some time I've thought about making something for sale, just to see if I could get enough money to buy just a little something *g* (well P5 would be nice but I do not have THAT high thoughts about my own abilities to make cash)

Anyway, I've spend the afternoon making this bowling alley.
I realize there's already one in the marketplace, but frankly (no offence) I think (and hope) this will be better.

Next question is then, would anybody be interested in it? let alone BUYING it? It doesn't seem like the other bowling alley has sold at all, no "people who bought this also bought..." but I don't know.
Also I don't know the price. Of course this is an early render, still to come are tables, chairs, monitors in the cieling and those thingies you enter your name and such in (I have no clue to what they're called in neither danish nor english L)

But whaddaya think? Should I let the idea rest totally or try to sell it?

It might appeal to too select a market. I once offered a texture for the P4polo shirt that made it into a bowling shirt, and I even offered to customize it (for free) with people's names as they asked for it. The texture was a pretty damn good one IMHO, but there was a grand total of six takers. Now, if I'd put out the same thing as Vicky lingerie, I'd probably be inundated with requests. :)

Hmmm... have to agree with VirtualSite, I can't imagine a bowling alley being way up on many people's wish list. If you simply want to make something that has a good chance of selling then anything fantasy related seems to be your best bet. Just my tuppence worth. Jack

VirtualSite ( ) posted Wed, 21 August 2002 at 3:50 PM

BTW, ern: that texture I mentioned? It was a freebie. Just so you know how pathetic it truly was. I couldn't even give the damn thing away. Now, for myself, I'd grab a bowling alley set in a second, because I can find a use for things like that. But as Jack points out, around here, if it ain't tits and towers, you're pretty well SOL.

"Tits and towers" LOL... love it. Jack

Perhaps people would be more interested if there were a celebrity nude bowling league ....

Ah well, I'll think about it once again then.... and in the meantime I'll continue on it... who knows, it might end up the largest freebie I've yet released.... (I'm using it as a project on learning how to do certain things in MAX anyway :o) ) heh and the next WIP picture just for the fun of it...

VirtualSite... they don't know what they were missing by not getting that great shirt of yours... I for one am glad I did!

Penguinisto ( ) posted Wed, 21 August 2002 at 4:40 PM

Ah, but you could doll up a vicky to look like Britney Spears and have her wearing nothing but VS' bowling shirt whilst fondling one of the bowling balls... (cue lewd suggestions regarding the bowling ball here.) Heh - I'm doing fairly decent on my background sales, but then again, they're well away from human habitation, and could easily be rigged to look like some wild fantasy place :) /P

VirtualSite ( ) posted Wed, 21 August 2002 at 4:51 PM

whilst fondling one of the bowling balls Just one? Heck, take two. Add a pin. Now ya got an image.....

hmatienzo ( ) posted Wed, 21 August 2002 at 5:06 PM

Yes, maybe... but is he STILL wearing the shirt in that image now???? (scratches head)

Well this has already been said, yes, it will sell but only to a selected amount of people. It sure is nice though, you did a really nice job. We get that too though, we have a select type of person and we love em all. The pie is large and there are a lot of people out there, all with different tastes, if you are planning on retiring on this, I would have to say, keep your day job, if it gives you joy and you sell 3, be happy because you made 3 people happy. I would definately give it a shot, you never know what will happen, it could be the start of something and it might not, but what will it hurt if you don't try right. You did a real fine job, be proud. Remember times are a little tight too and you now Poser 5 is out and many have saved there money for that, but it will come time and someone will say, boy I could use that bowling alley, and there you go, your start. Hope this helps you...Sharen :-)

VirtualSite ( ) posted Wed, 21 August 2002 at 6:31 PM

Let me just add (and my apologies for not saying so at the very beginning of this thread) that, as Sharen points out, it's a gorgeous job of modelling -- and doesn't Poser come with an animation for throwing a bowling ball??? Anyway, if you decide to release it, let me know. I'll happily take one. I got a whole team standing by and waiting.....

This is a bit like Jaguar offering several wonderful automobiles for free and then deciding to branch out into beefsteaks for profit. You already know what you do splendidly and uniquely. You're the Jaguar brand of 3D trash! There's nothing wrong with branching out, but commercial success more often comes from pursuing one's unique talents. I would have been willing to pay for each of your litter products, and certainly would pay for a "dustbin" full of surprises.

I'd say go for it. You never know what will sell till you try it. I've always thought you could make a compilation CD of your stuff and sell it. :) It looks good from that angle so far.

your bowling ally is great but I'm with ockham, think back ally. your trash reigns supreme as far as useful freebes go, probably the best and most innovative freebes I've see in a long time. do some grimy city street scenes and some more trash and pack it all including all your freebes onto a CD and you got a sure winner. I'd buy it. I think with the new p5 features fewer people will be taking their figures out of Poser to other programs to landscape and render. Hell, now that i think of it by that logic you should go ahead and release the bowling alley if you are going to make it anyway you can put it at a low enough price to make it worthwile to many. I think I'd buy it just to support your freebes

Poppi ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 6:50 AM

it's a wonderful bowling lane. nice job. now, all you have to do is make it somehow resemble a temple, and, they will come. or, you could give it to a bunch of buddies to beta test, with instructions to post in poser gallery with vicki in the middle...also be sure they give one another the appropriate oohs and aahs....if they can vote a couple of themselves into the hot 20, you've got it made. viewers will see it, and KNOW your bowling lane is the ticket to renderosity fame and fortune.

Penguinisto ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 9:50 AM

ROTFL@ Poppi! Well, she has a point there... BTW - Ockham is spot-on, Trekkie - a back-alley and a few other unsavory/seedy parts of town would kick butt and sell big. If you want/need textures to do this, let me know and I'd be more than happy to photograph/scan-up as many as you need. (What the hell - I have a concealed-carry permit and a camera...) /P

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 11:54 AM

But there IS a back alley already, Ohdeathoflife has one, and it's great, I was lucky to get it as a gift. Point is, I don't feel like copycat'ing, so a back alley seems to be out of the question. However, I guess you're right about the possible need for other places... dark places. Penguinisto, I'll be happy to get some photos from you, as I have less than no idea of basic aspects of american back alleys. And a cute li'l danish back alley won't sell, I'm afraid ;o) Also all sorts of textures, from grafittied walls to pavements would be nice so I would know what to aim at :o) In the meantime I can't help continuing with the bowling alley, it's almost there - I've posted a new pic in another thread - and above all, it's fun to make :o) ... hmm..... an ABANDONED bowling alley...... mmmm...perhaps... spooky....?

What about a FANTASY back alley? You know, the dark alley between the docks and the tavern which dead ends against the temple of ultimate evil... Jack

wdupre ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 3:44 PM

look at the movies spawn and blade runner some of the best gritty street scenes out there both contemprary and futuristic just the place for swirling trash.

terminusnord ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 4:09 PM

The newest trend in American bowling alleys is Disco Bowling Night, where there are lots of blacklights, glow-in-the-dark balls, loud club music etc.. a night most for the high school kids to hang out an bowl. A night the league "regulars" have to hit their favorite bars or the V.F.W. instead ;-P -Adam

VirtualSite ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 5:03 PM

Bowling alleys, trash.... okay, admit it: we're all just one step away from Trailer Park Boys. And that would be a really good thing.....
