Hehe, we in Germany get it even earlier (September 2). ;) I'm not sure if I believe that.499 Euro. ouch
I posted in a thread earlier about dates, don't take any notice of any dates that the order site gives you cause they are wrong, I was quoted by the site 24th & 26th August as delivery date. 26th is a bank holiday over here in UK & there's no chance of getting anything delivered that day :) They know about it over at CL & are working to fix it. There is no secrecy about the release date. God, this is one of the most impatient groups of people on the planet (me included). There most likely is no firm date yet. We can guess that the product has gone gold, or will this week based on the estimated release date. Anthony has pretty much implied that the manual is done or almost done. That leaves printing, duplication, and packaging to go. This can be any vairable amount of time, up to two or three weeks, depending on print speed, duplication speed, whether any "larger" duplication or printing projects are ahead of CL, which has to wait, and whether they are just trying to meet preorders first, with general orders later. Just be patient. At most you have three weeks to wait. If you are concerned about the UPS guy, leave him a note. I am sure it will make his day. As an alternative, why don't you have it delivered to your work. That way you will get it ASAP. I am sure you can contact CL and have then change the "deliver to" address. I am sure they will announce when formal shipping begins when they have an accurate estimate.
The uncertainty about dates it is not usually a mystery when software is concerned, it can be safely guessed as "debugging". Based on my past experience as beta tester, the last days of a pre-release stage are those when you finally go through the list of all remaining bugs to fix them, and they probably still don't know precisely how long this last step will take.
Right, so are they sending an email to let you know it's on the way? Hope so. And e-onsoftware who makes Vue and Mover doesn't allow you to just leave the package unless you say if it is stolen you don't get another without paying for it. Actually I won't just let them leave software on my porch, at least not these days. CL didn't say I had to be here to get it....I say I have to be here. I'm just wondering when the release date is, as are a lot of folks, and wondering if we will get an email when it is shipped. Since CL monitors these threads pretty close, usually you will get an answer from them here before you will if you email them, at least that's been my experience in the past. I'm not even going to talk about bugs, don't even want to think about them. I think I will go watch a movie or something and relax. Marque
I wish more companies would ship USPS, Priority Mail, or use the new Airborne@Home method, where they ship Airborne to the Post Office nearest a residential customer and let the letter carrier bring the package directly to your home, or even to a PO Box if you like.
If I can't be home, I just fill in the little slip for them to redeliver on Saturday and the post office doesn't charge extra for that. If I have to make a run to pick it up, it will only be as far as my local post office substation, not some distribution center miles away.
I get most things Priority Mail, a lot of companies will work with ya on such things but I couldn't work a deal with Curious Labs. :(
Just FYI, all carriers (Airborne, UPS, FedEX, USPS) will leave a package at your door if you leave them a handwritten message. That is if you are willing to leave your package outside until you get home. Here (Austin, TX) that is not a problem as we have relatively low crime, and I live in a nice neighborhood. Not a concern for me.
My UPS guy is real nice. He knows to knock loudly with a morning delivery because I sleep until noon... and I know not to wear anything which might embarrass a guy if waiting for a parcel. If it doesn't need a signature, he tucks the package into a prearranged spot, and leaves a message saying that it's been delivered so that I know to go hunting for it. After 15 years on the route, we know each other's habits. I do almost all of my Christmas shopping from catalogs because I hate crowds and malls and noisy/pushy places. One year I was a couple weeks late putting up the tree and both my FedEx and UPS guys commented on it and hoped that I was ok. It is a remarkable tree... no lights or tinsel, but lots of glass and beaded ornaments, very Victorian. It is a bit embarrassing, but also reassuring, to know that our habits are remembered, and that they like leaving packages for us and getting a smile in return. Carolly
I also live in an area that is low crime, but one of my neighbors did get her stereo stolen out of her car, in 5 years that is the only thing that has been stolen on this block. But it only takes once, and I don't intend to be the one who has to go through the hassle of explaining why I need a new copy of Poser 5 shipped and oh yes, I don't want to pay for the new one since the old one got stolen. See my point? Usually they will email a tracking number but it's not always automatic. Also, just because I ask a question or make a statement that is not an attack on a person or company, I'm just asking a question or making a statement. 8^) Marque

I was just looking over Amazon.com, and found this on the info page for Poser 5:
"This item will be released on September 7, 2002. You may order it now and we will ship it to you when it arrives."
Is that true? Is it really just over 2 weeks away? After decades (ok, maybe that's an exaggeration, but it feels like it... :p) of waiting, is it really this close?
