After the overwhelming amount of comments stating how dark it was, I've gone back, and re-rendered my entry for this month.

Nice V2, I did like the darkness, My entry is pretty dark too.

Oh, you deleted the first one! I wanted to compare the two. I will say that I can now see the sea monster. which I didn't even realize was there in the first one. I quite like the bits of stuff in the water. Is that post work?

big_hoovie ( ) posted Wed, 21 August 2002 at 6:34 PM

Isstrout: the bits of stuff in the water are actually 2D faces sized to about 2x3. there are actually about 4000 of them in the entire scene, which I did a 3D disperse/rotate on.

Well I can certainly make out a lot more than on the previous version. Nice Work. Regards The Bryster

SHONNER: I know its dark, but that kinda was the theme of this challenge, no? besides, if I make it too light, it would look like it was 300 feet below the surface, not thousands of feet below the surface(which is what I orignally went for, but was too dark for the majority)

BTW, ISSTROUT, the only thing that changed was the water type, and the light color and brightness

I can't tell what the scale is. The fish is either very huge in a huge abyss. Or just regular size in a hallway-size abyss. Are the headlights from another vessel your only source of light? Or is that light coming from your vessel or the Sun? If the Sun, then it should be out of the water. If it's from your vessel, then how does it shine light on the back side of objects? Just opinions.

if I told you it was magic, would you believe me? j/k... in reality, it is the only way I liked seeing this scene lit up. call it a bit of artistic license here... =c)

Realistically, at depth you wouldn't see anthing. Some artistic interpretation is therefore necessary in regard to light to get your image viewable. I like the bubbles and the overall tone. - TJ
