Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 23 7:38 pm)
You'll be glad to know Content Paradises is really flexible. You've the choice to automatically download or download to a folder for manual install later. Content Paradise works with the existing system of files - Zipped or UNZipped. It doesn't require any special format to download files. It looks at a file(s), (and even into a ZIP), and checks the file(s) type. When it sees files it recognises it prompts you to automatically install these into the correct library locations. The cool thing is that you will be able to search partner sites, make your puurchase, and download without ever leaving Poser. And it keeps a history of all purchases that you can go back to easily.
The no special format is good. Seperate folder and manual install later(as an option) is good Question: Does the "copy" command permit you to DL the file, make a copy elsewhere(disk/CD), and then let you install the original through Poser's Paradise? Question: Can the "History of purchases" be disabled? I don't want tie up my memory, or to carry a loaded cookie. Question: Are the venders charged fees? Question: Can vendors sell elsewhare? Question: What are "Partnersites"?
You should contact CL for specifics, but I believe the last quote for the participation in Content Paradise was a fee of 15% your total gross. Email them. The percentage might have changed. Not sure who at CL to point you to though. Sorry. Anton

Thanks Anton, rate sounds good, I think Renderosity is 40-50%, good unless you're talking about adding 15% on top of 40-50%, that could be bad for vendors. I suspect "Partnersites" are smallersites. If that's the case, then Rob's question about quality checks is important. Are we talking about a CL version of "renderosity"?
At a rough guess this is done to stop people pirating poser content, the reason you have to re-download is that it authorises your download as you install it, Just like havng to get an auth code from CL when you install poser5. So if you cut the connection before you install it can no longer get the authcode for the content you just bought. I imagine it'll report back on what you have installed too, nice scheme, I doubt it'll last long, but you never know. :) later jb
Hey there, I only know that figure because I was going to open my own store and was approached. Instead I joined Daz so my info may be out of date. I have absolutely no idea what that would mean for the site's vendors. I guess that is up to the site owners.

Ok, I'm not 100% sure on this; this is what I've pieced together... I'm sure you'll still be able to do the plain old manual installs. Why do I say this? Simple, if the only way to add stuff to P5 where through paradise, then everyone who's ever bought anything from DAZ would have to re-download the re-packed item (definitely an expense to DAZ, bandwidth/re-packing). My guess is, this is just an easier way of installation, but not mandatory (At least I hope so...) But anyways, an answer from Curious Labs would be nice on this one...
excutable file, a "copy to folder" window appears if Poser doesn't recognise or can't install content, browse for destination folder, copy to your folder, where you can access and process(install program), click cancel to exit download manager. My question had to do with a file that Poser does recognise, and I want to copy make a copy as a back-up before I use the Poser install.
I think this is more of an issue for the sites in content paradise. Daz Installers will still work the way they always have.....no worries. Email me if you have a question. Regards, Anton anton@daz3d.com

shrug For those of us who don't connect workstations to the internet, it's an absolutely useless feature.

I bet poser won't be the only way to get to the content paradise, it sounds to me like they've built a copy of Netscape, IE or something similar into poser, so people who don't want to use poser on a net connected machine should still be able to get there, it wouldn't make sense to have just the one way to get content from Paradise :) Rob

Content Room The idea of downloadind and installing directly into Poser sounds good, but I have some reservations. If I purchase a product I like to keep a copy on a CD in case the original get corrupted or the software crashs, or (heaven forbid), the computer crashes, or I want to selectively do a clean install in Poser6. Reading the manual I assume Paradise unzips and installs, or does it require the vender to have unzipped files? If it does require unzipped files, people without MSL will have problems, such as DL times. It may require venders to break up programes into smaller files, or design smaller programs. If venders disign programs for Paradise installs, will the same programs be able to install the old fashion way? Is Paradise open to all venders free, or do they have have to pay a fee, the reason I ask is, any fee will proably be passed on to the customer(like me). Are the vendors in Paradise be required to put their items in a special format that requires a fee? Will this format prevent me from DL to a disc, and installinng the old way? Does anyone else have question in this area? Any help with these questions would be appreicated.
