Subject: Please verify your email address! Final Warning!

In effort to keep old banned users from rejoining under new email addresses, we have to lock down everyone's email addresses. Starting this Friday you will no longer be able to edit your email address in your profile page, so please ensure yours is correct! Sorry for the inconvience. fur

Sorry, but what's the point in this? If you can't edit your own address, it will be still possible for every moron to log in with a new dummy one just to do a couple of offensive posts (until the member name gets blocked, and the game starts again). If you want to lock out stupid people, you have to verify every new address, not to block the old ones. Something like "create a random password and mail it to the entered e-mail". PFO is doing this (and they were occasionally critized for it), but it should work better than the current plans.

yes, that will be the next step

This is good news, because it will definitely help to make this a safer place. Nevertheless, I would love to get an answer: what is the point in blocking existing addresses? This is a serious disadvantage for all existing members, and it would help to know a reason why we should take it. I guess you can block certain addresses for log-in. Blocking old ones only makes sense to keep forum terrorists from loggin in under a new fake address, and then change it back to their real old one. But why can't you just prevent this - whenever a terrorist changes back to a known evil address, throw him/her out again. And do they really switch back to a known one, when they only drop in to cause trouble!?? You are going to punish 100% of friendly members, and you will cause 0% trouble for the nasty ones, I'm afraid.

because i have to guarantee they are all unique between the time i start and the time i finish making all of the changes. it is true once all the new safe-guards are in place we could re-enable changing your email address.

Good luck for your changes, and please bring it back as soon as possible. If ones local mail server is down for a weekend, it is just very useful to setup a different address for the board news until it is fixed :-)

What if my e-mail address changes? I may be moving in the near future and it is likely my e-mail address will change if I do. How will I be able to get changed here if I do?
