Well then since were all here there are some questions which I
DO NOT require Curious Labs to answer (thats NOT) until the appropriate time. Though, be ready, since these will be what people will ask.

1- Is the MAC disc of Poser 5 dual-platform?
2- Does it work in non-OS X as well (as opposed to classic)?
3- Are there any MAC only features in Poser 5?
4- Can someone with the MAC version of Poser 4 purchase the Windows version at the upgrade price?
5- Can someone with the Windows version of Poser 5 purchase the MAC version at the upgrade price?
6- Can the CDs (install and content) also be purchased as a DVD, presuming they are not dual-platform?
7- Does the MAC version require a Challenge Code?

If anyone else is compelled to answer then thank you but no thank you since I think the answers will come.

1. Probably not, since the Windoze version isn't. 2. Steve told me in an IM that they were going to have the Mac version working in 9.x as well as OSX. I hope he's right. I'm not especially interested in OSX at the moment. 3. QuickTime export's the only one I know of for sure. 4. Yep. On the web page right now, you can upgrade to Windoze 5 from Mac 4. 5. Probably, when they get around to releasing it. 6. I doubt that will happen for the moment. 7. No idea on that one. What's a challenge code?

MACs running "Virtual PC" ~MIGHT~ be able to run the PC version... some programs work great.... some work for a little while and then crash.... some require you to reset the computer some crash the entire OS and some will not even start at all.... but..as I said.. some programs work great, with no problems at all...~some~ challenge code=serial number?

#7 - you mean the CD Key, yes? It probably will require one. You Mac guys are lucky - It'll be 2010 before a Linux version comes out - roughly 3 weeks after Microsoft finally files for Chapter 11 protection due to lost sales, I figure (heh - a guy can dream, can't he?) Virtual PC in OS.9x may work... I tried running P4 in WINE (Linux 2.4.7 kernel ), and got roughly one render out of it before everything went to hell, and on its way down obliterated the copied Windoze .dll files I had needed to make Poser fire up in the first place. Meanwhile, does anyone know how to make a Macintosh boot floppy? I got this Mac Clone dropped into my lap (134MHz), but the drive is empty. Booting off the CD shot craps for me, so my only option is the floppy... if I can make one with a PC, that is. /P /P

Penguinisto: About Virtual PC: I don't know for you, but my sad little experience with that emulator tells me not to ever think about trying to run a CPU intensive app like Poser 4 or 5; I just wanted to throw the 'puter out the window (no pun intended) after installing and trying to run Ubisoft Scrabble(what are those jackets with very long, very very long sleves for ? Not easy to type with these on: in fact, I'm typing with my nose...). And it's not because I run a low end mac (mine's an eMac, 700 mHz, about 400 Mb ram, 40 Gb rom, etc.), though it could maybe take another 512 Mb of ram easily . As for the boot floppy, again, you'd probably need to get the Mac OS running with that kind of clone machine (8.0-8.5, maybe even 9.0-9.1 ?) in a rebootable CD form. Given you have the correct system CD and an internal CD-rom drive working properly (not mentioning the 'puter running properly), all you have to do is to hold the key C while rebooting with the system CD in. The challenge code is entered during registration and is a safeguard against illegal distributing. You transmit, email, or read over the phone a number found with your purchase. You receive another code via the same medium to enter into Poser. There are a lot of potential users concerned about this and are quoting George Orwell. The Pro-Pac Service Release, a free download, was also going to have it but CL decided to rely on users reporting its illegal use instead. Id hate to think this is holding up the Mac version. Penguinisto, rawwrite. you know, that silly windows app that comeswith linux distro's ( store bought) for making linux bootable floppies? all you need is a boot image for the app to burn to floppy. then even win can make a mac boot disk. I know linux has a util for doing so but not sure what it's called. ~g~ hmmm, the mac utils only require the insertion of a mac os installation cd to be able to run mac apps on linux.

and mandrake has a version for mac hardware, so you could just put linux on it.

HOLY SH*T! No way! rawrite does mac boot disks too? (A mac boot .img file would be required, naturally, but I didn't think an *ix formatted disk would be readable by a Mac...) Heh - worth a shot - after all, I've only got a zillion different Linux distros laying around the place. Jacqui - good idea - Mandrake and Yellow Dog Linux (a distro made especially for PPC) should both have what I'm looking for. /me runs off to go play with rawrite... /P
