Attached Link: The Eternal Night Life

Hey Everyone... As some of you may know I am the 1...2...I think 13th Animator here in Renderosity...Even though I am a newbie I know exactly how it feels to get super frustrated when you try and try and don't succeed. I have created a website to hopefully help everyone like me get ahead in the animation world: Thus, The Eternal Night Life. I would be very happy to post any and all of your tutorials on my website if you don't have one already. I'll even host some of your animations. No Strings. It will be completely user friendly, very personal so anyone can feel free to jot down their tut's and email them to me. I have also included a forum and a small chat room..nothing fancy because I'm usually here anyways but it's still there in any case. I hope that you can all participate and email me your tutorials. Since having it I practically update it everyday with a little something. To help, just follow the link. It's still under some rearranging but looks good and all tutorials sent to me will be placed there no more than 24 hours from me getting it. I hope I can help with this and make a small difference in a world full of experts... So..what are you waiting for...Email me your TUTORIALS!!! ANY OR ALL!!! CAT

Cool graphics Cat... I'm definitely hoping to joins the 12 animators here, and have saved your site in my favorites. Unfortunately I don't have anything to offer (yet) but hope to learn enough that eventually I will. Good luck!

If you are number 13, can I be 14? How do I join the club?

krimpr ( ) posted Mon, 02 September 2002 at 3:33 PM

I think you just did. In fact, you can be 13 because I haven't really started yet.

Bobasaur ( ) posted Mon, 02 September 2002 at 6:58 PM

[in a rare moment of seriousness]... I think 13 and 14 were already claimed but in all honesty, there were those that came before us. "The Elder Ones" (like Joe Grover) Eventually, you will all be assimilated. Your distinctiveness will be added to our collective. Resistance is futile. Remember The Alamo! 7 of 12 (a.k.a. Bobasaur)

Hot Diggidy Dragon! I've toyed with a few animations and just ordered MIMIC, love to learn some real stuff!! And just how to get things right like say; make wings (fairy or dragon) flap at a constant speed while maintaining smooth natural motion with the rest of the body I tried making a Valentine cupid last year that flew in from off stage, turned at the screen and shot his arrow, then flew off. But only with only fair results ;p

Maybe someone could create a site (or add to their exisiting site) a registry where we could register as animators, and it would automatically assign a number. It would be fun to watch the list grow and see how many of us there really are out there. You just have to put Wolf and I down as #1 and #2 (respectively). :-) -Tim (1 of 12: co-founder)

Good idea Tim. I would like to know which number I am. God bless. number ? of 12+

Cat, you're welcome to pinch my tutorials at my clean site and my hints and tips on Billy's animaniacs forum at RDNA. I think I've put some up on my Yahoo group Flash_erotica too (560 very silent members) there are plenty of examples there in the files on the group's home page. Chris Derochie's group Poseamation seems to be dying a death now, which is a great pity but, there are some interesting bits and bobs in the archives...

I am animator X. That is to say I have been doing animations with poser - in secret. I've learned quite a bit and I will be glad to help out.

Cat, What are the parameters for putting tutorials on your site? -- do we design our own html pages (obviously providing graphics) and you just link to them or are you wanting us to just do the write up, indicate where the images go, and then you do the actual page design/coding and thus maintain the look (and navigation) of your site? -- Also, I know some people don't have QuickTime. Would you (or is there anyone else) be able to convert from QuickTime to divX?

Talley ... welcome aboard. Guess your cover is blown! ;-) I operate in a similar manner ... I rarely post anything unless it is a complete and polished piece (compositing, sound effects, special effects, color adjustment, etc.) Your help will be much appreciated around here. -Tim

Thanks for the support guys. To make things easier, you can just do it on a Microsoft Word document I guess, almost everyone has that program. I am more than happy to keep the pictures at my domain to make sure the pages all appear faster and I'll convert it to HTML. Or copy paste it onto a message and email me the pics. Unless you have an easier way, I'm open to suggestions. Another thing I'd like to have is to get a sample file from each of you. Nothing fancy, maybe 1-1.4 MB animation, a short description of you. and a pic. Simple, Black background so it can mix with the site's background. Saxon, thanks for the Tuturial, you'd be the First. Keep 'em coming guys! CAT

P.S. Can you all see the applets and do the pages appear quickly, or at least moderately without anyone getting pissed of at the load time? I just want to keep it a nice looking site... CAT

timoteo1 ( ) posted Tue, 03 September 2002 at 7:41 PM

Load time is not an issue for me, but I'd ditch the applets. The best sites are those that keep it relatively simple. The right hand nav looks cool the first couple of times, but it gets annoying thereafter, IMHO. Also, the site is a little hard on the eyes ... the font and font color choices could be better. I've seen worse, but red on black never looks great, and gives people a headache after a while. Best to stick with white and other light colors if you're going to use a black background. Please don't take this as a SLAM, but rather constructive criticism. I think what you are doing is great! Thanks for your efforts. -Tim

cat3dgrafx ( ) posted Tue, 03 September 2002 at 8:43 PM

I definitely appreciate it... I have only chosen two applets as they are the nicest and shortest in loading time...one's 5.3kb and the other's 12. As for the navigation, I actually got it going 40 frames per second for that same reason. Maybe if I up it up to 60. I created this site to help me and others, I don't want to lose people because my site bothers their eyes after a while you know... Do you think blue would be better? Any suggestions, I'd like to keep it with a black background but would definitely change the color if you think it would be better.. P.S. Saxon's Low Res Animation tutorial is up. Thanks Saxon.

timoteo1 ( ) posted Tue, 03 September 2002 at 8:56 PM

Again, it's not the load time with the animated navigation ... it's just a nuisance factor after the 5th viewing, let alone the 500th. ;-) Blue would be worse. Look at R'Osity ... mostly whites and beige for the text (by default). Good luck!

Bobasaur ( ) posted Tue, 03 September 2002 at 10:16 PM

On my Mac, part of the intro water wave applet covers part of the text below it. That's also a danger of applets: compatibility with different browsers, different platforms...
