Subject: Low-cost female figures - advice needed

I'm running P3 and on a budget. I'm planning to get male and female Daz figures, and have ideas on tweaking them to fit P3. The male figure is obvious - Mike 1, now down to under $16.00. But who should his companion be? At $20.00, it's a 3-way fight - Vicki 1, Lo-res Vicki 2, or Stephanie P4.

Which would be the best all-round of the three? I'm leaning towards V1 because of the number of extras available, but will happily take advice to the contrary if people think otherwise.

Thanks.

I would say Vicki 2 - the morph limitations in Poser 3 (99 maximum) will mean that you can't use all the face morphs I think... but just strip out some that you don't need using morph manager. Then you'll get the P4 version to fit all Posette's clothes, the version that will take Vicki's stuff, and you'll have much more versatility with the face shaping. I've successfully got Vicki 1 working in Poser 3, and I think sueya modified Mike as well. So it can be done!

These figures won't work in Poser 3. Here's why:

  1. They use two maps each..poser 3 can only use one at a time.

  2. They use transparency..Poser 3 does not do transparency.

DAZ sells other figures that do work with Poser 3, you may want to e-mail them.

See the picture in my post (uses Eowyn's Kathlyn textures). There's a way round it, but it takes dedication and a little bit of text editing.

I just want P3 users to be aware of what will and won't work right out of the box. I bet P4 prices will be plunging once P5 is released.

You can get Vicky and Mike to work in Poser 3. Little Dragon sent me some eye morphs which I found helpful. As for the texture problem I usually do one render with the body textutre and one with the head texture and combine them in Paint Shop Pro. This image was done using this method.
