Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 13 11:02 am)
You have to be warned...POSER IS ADDICTIVE. Be prepared to find yourself spending all your time and money on poser, once you get started. Fantastic fun though, and here is just the nicest place to hang out. So many helpful people.
The greatest part of wisdom is learning to develop the ineffable genius of extracting the "neither here nor there" out of any situation...."
Definately get Poser 5, then stop and get Vue d'Esprit,www.e-onsoftware.com, wonderful software and imports poser animations with Mover (new software that helps with Poser files and Vue in conjunction)if you want to do animations, then stop by and get UV Mapper by Steve Cox, www.UVMapper.com definate for texturing. Hope you have a photoshop or some kind of Paint software, or PhotoPaint by Corel. Can't wait to see you render. Sharen :-)
No Programming or HTML needed. artistic ability helps. This is a good time to start with us because Poser 5 will be shipping out this month so there will many conversations about how to do something or other (we'll be just learning alot of the new features too) In the meantime go to the curious labs web site and download the demo. The demo only has 1 figure - a dressed male figure. But you can learn about the basics with it. try re-texturing the guy, see how he looks with different lighting, try posing (using the dials) Here at renderosity you can find tutorials, freestuff & help when you run into trouble. As far as what program to buy, My advice to a newbie is to only buy poser 5, P4 is cheaper but after the addiction sets in you'll want the features in P5 and buying them separate will cost more than if you bought P5 from the start. I would skip Bryce for now, I have Bryce 4 (rarely use it) and have heard that Bryce 5 was a disappiontment. As you gain experiance & through trial & error you will discover what elements to purchase, depending on your personal needs. Lastly I will add that while poser costs more than your typical off the shelf program, you will get alot more enjoyment from it (think about how often you use a program you bought 3 years ago? I've had Poser for 2.5 years and still use it daily)
Wow thanks everyone,, I ran over to the curiosity lab store lol...but I had to put mine on layaway for now, hope to have it in the next 4 weeks...and thanks for the advise about the demo, I didnt even see it, I love reading and was reading other stuff..but i didnt see how i could check my encryption, right now im downloading the manual.. oh whew..that new Johnnie Quest, and toystory an Shrek boy really got my motors runnin then lol hugs to all -- an yes i put that vue Esprit on my wish list its beautiful..already drink tons of coffee ahahaha and by coincidence i found that Uv mapper earlier this morning while i was serfing been up since 10am yesterday and i bookmarked it thanks!! time for a nap now lol so photopaint huh okkk thanks guys!! running to get that demo guy lol
Hmmm. the P4 demo is gone, so get the pro pack demo instead (not that different anyway) My advice on paint programs: get a demo version or lite version before you drop $100-400 on a program. I got adobe photo deluxe for free with a printer (also came with a scanner so I have 2 copies) It works really well for a beginner.

I suggest a beginers class being offered at LVSOnline. A wonderful instructor, costs is low (20.00) and you learn the "need to know" basics in six weeks.....all that and it is fun , too. DianeThanks everyone for your replies I really appreciate it, this is a extremely helpful and tight knit community.. now, I know I have been bugging you guys lol..but I do have 2 very important questions, and believe me I do a lot of searching on the net, so Im not asking vainly.. Firstly I have an online community and a friend liked it and asked me to do his..I found some poser gifs at http://www.castletrash.com does anyone know of any other sites like it where I can pick up free gifs? well I think thats it really, I wanted to add these type pics adn gifs to pages and sites..non commercial and Im ony doing it for a friend so Im not being paid and I wouldnt take anyone else work claiming it to be my own, thats why im looking for freebies.. You should all be ashamed of yourselves...promoting addiction of the highest order...why there should be a law against that type of corruption....I mean the poor girl already doesn't sleep, soon she'll forget to eat and the rest is all downhill from there.... Seriously, you've already found the best place to get help, rant, or just hang out. Hope you have a very large coffeepot! Going to play with my Mom's new dragon now, Angelus_Fate
