Subject: Poser4 on television

Hi all! I just joined this forum and I have done so with an agenda. There has been a lot of talk over the years about if Poser, Bryce, Carrara and such are "Professional Level" products. I have always firmly held that it is what you do with a program that denotes what level it is. In an effort to give some believability to this I would like to let you know that as of this morning I have negotiated a contract to sell the world television rights to an animated film I did using mostly Poser4 with Carrara and Bryce5 backing things up. The company in London who is buying the rights (TV only. I retain all other rights) is sending a crew over to film an interview with me on how I did the film and what I used. I might even have Poser5 for Mac by then and it will be shown on tv's all over the planet. In the US it will be showing on The Sci Fi Channel. This just goes to show that no matter WHAT tools you are using, hard work and scarifice will eventually be recognized. You just have to stick with it and keep pushing. Tony Lane

Dear Mr. Lane, If there is anything at all I or anyone at Curious Labs can do to assist you, please don't hesitate to ask. I can't commit to anything just yet, of course, but we'll do our best. Anthony Hernandez Documentation Manager Curious Labs

Thank YOU, ivyroses. Since I posted that a little while ago they called back and want to option my new film which is a mixture of live action and Poser4 animation. I have shown them some clips and they love it. Unless you insist that these companies treat you like a professional and you refuse to let them have your work for free they never will offer. Tony

tonylane ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 5:28 PM

Anthony, Thank you very much. The new film, Night Tracker, has a bit of "Product Placement" in it for Poser. When the film is complete I will let you guys know where you can see it and you can let me know if you want it left in. I have a clip without the poser manual in plain sight if you have problems with it. Don't panic. The film is not porn, just a short horror story. Tony Lane

Yes, can you find out when it's showing in the states? Congrats, and thanks for the words of encouragement! Marque

There is a small web version available at www.urbanchillers.com in their 2 Minute Chiller section. The film is titled Mail Trap and I used Poser4 for a LOT of it. The new one, Night Tracker, is still up for grabs but will probably also premier at Urban CHillers. I'll let you all know when the she sira on television.

Mail Call.. I loved it. yes it is chilling. good job Tony

tonylane ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 8:33 PM

Kendra & unclebob, Thank you both very much. Bob- sorry the video is so small but bandwidth is always a problem. The new one, Night Tracker, is hopefully even scarier. I'll let you know when the deal is closed and it is available. Btw-- if anybody is wondering, Poser4 animation and live action video CAN be matted together and look good. It takes a bit of work but the results are better than I expected.

Great Tony! Congrats!!! Nosfiratu, Tony mentioned above, "I might even have Poser5 for Mac by then and it will be shown on tv's all over the planet" Sounds like you folks might want to get the MAC P5 version ready. :-) Actually, I'm on a PC but feel for the MAC folks.

Bobasaur ( ) posted Fri, 06 September 2002 at 9:11 PM

ALL RIGHT TONY!!! For those of you that weren't able to attend, Tony had 2 shorts featured on the Renderosity Video Loop that was shown at Dragon*Con. Tony shared both "Mail Trap" and one called "The Relief Mission." Both were "a hoot" and I was delighted to that he shared them. Good luck Tony, and yes, PLEASE keep us posted on airtimes and the like. p.s. Don't forget us little people when you become big, OK!

Congratulations TonyLane!! It is always great to know that someone is using poser in a profesional way!! My company has been using poser for Mexican Television since 99 making interactive games (specially for sports), The tools my company used was poser and Multimedia fussion and we got a very good rating here, people at Mipcom (cann France was not familiar with poser) I know your project is bigger and more ambicious than interactive gamming, but I seriously congratulate you because it has been hard for people like us to demostrate that poser has the same profesional quality as any other high end 3d software. Wish you the best of luck, and please keep us informed about which or what channel will transmit your project. Best Regardings Benigno "Virus" Fernandez Solar Stone producciones, S.C. CEO

Congratulations Tony, well done. I certainly second your sentiment that its the product not the tool that is important. I wish you continuing success.

I've been watching the sci fi channel on directTV and believe that there is a possility of folks showing their stuff. I've seen way better vids here than i have there. Hope all you posermators make contact and submit your stuff.

c1rcle ( ) posted Sat, 07 September 2002 at 3:02 AM

Excellent news Tony, I went over to urbanchillers a while back to have a look at mail trap, I can't wait to see your work back on TV :) Rob

d_authority ( ) posted Sat, 07 September 2002 at 7:21 AM

congratulations! that's one big step for you! :) ill look forward to that! :)

tonylane ( ) posted Sat, 07 September 2002 at 8:51 AM

BTW-- If any of you DO go over to Urban Chillers (www.urbanchillers.com) to look at Mail Trap find the feedback section and let them know how you liked it. In the original competition there were over 200 entries and as far as I know mine was the only animation. If they know that folks want to see animation from what you tell 'em they will be more open to it in the future and that will open up markets to other animators out there. Tony Lane

unclebob ( ) posted Sat, 07 September 2002 at 11:59 AM

sure thing Tony... will go do that right now. again, really great animation and the file size is fine.. no worries. bob

Thorgrim ( ) posted Sat, 07 September 2002 at 2:24 PM

This is really great, CONGRATULATIONS! This is the kind of inspiring information I like to read here. Please keep us informed. Maybe we need a forum where people can post info like this. I mean art and animation is what its all about. I didnt know about VIRUSs company either. Its really the kind of stuff I as a Hobbyist like to find out about I think it all to often gets lost in all the other stuff. Well, before I become some of the other stuff. Thanks again for letting us know about this.
