THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: creating Bryce5 format .obj files for export and then import into Bryce 5

Hi, I want to create objects and store them in Bryce as obj files then export the bryce5 format obj and send them to others. I know this can be done because free bryce format obj files are offered here at renderosity as well as 3d commune. So it must be simple...... Thanks

You cannot export a primitive from Bryce, but if you make an .obj in another program and bring it in, then texture, you can export back out with the texture attached. 1. Import your object. 2. Texture it. 3. Click the "E" on the tool list to the right of the highlighted object which opens the edit box. The box has the two spheres in it which lets you smooth the object. 4. While in the edit box, press "ctrl d" and save your object in any format you like. That said, ditch the scene and import your newly saved object. I think you'll find texture attached, but with problems. I don't see my diamond glass remaining in tact on the import after having done this, so if anyone knows more, please, I'm curious.

OK Thanks. I will try this over the weekend... Also do you know how to make a .obp bryce file?

If you mean the Bryce native OBJ format (not the A|W obj) You can export your bryce primitives, but only the brycian OBJ's and you can only import bryce-OBJ's in bryce. So If you model something in bryce you can export it, but you can not import it in any other software than bryce. To export to a bryce obj you need to do the following: 1. Select your object in bryce. 2. click on the little triangle next to the text 'create' (top of the screen). 3. A menu should come up with an object library. click on the text 'add' at the bottom of this menu. you can now type the name of the object and add a comment and click on the little 'v' at the bottom of the menu to save the object. 4. The object should now be in your library file. You can import it into every scene your working on. 5. to export the object(s) you can enter the library, select the object and click on 'export' at the bottom of the library menu. The rest is a standard save-file procedure.

OBP is easy enough, though its native to bryce and nothing reads it. 1. Higlight your object, or groups, or all your objects (whatever you like). 2. Go to 'create' and use the pull down menu. 3. Save it in whatever library you like. 4. highlight the thumbnail that you saved and export that. 5. Do remember to rename your export from the default (which is the library name) to the name you want. You'll find the file where you put it, but like it was said above, nothing will read it but Bryce.
