Subject: crash when duplicating an object in os 10.2 ! ? !

pixelicious ( ) posted Mon, 09 September 2002 at 9:33 AM · edited Wed, 13 November 2024 at 11:07 PM

i repeatedly experience a crash in carrara 2 (patched) running on mac - os 10.2. anyway, the problem is that carrara bombs out (unexpectedly quit error message) when i try to duplicate an object. this happens with any object, in new documents, after restarts with nothing else running, and both when i use the menu and the keyboard short cut. does anyone else have this problem? and or know if eovia is doing something about it? cause it's going to be very difficult to build efficient scenes without being able to duplicate objects.

fine. duplicate doesn't work. at least i can copy and paste, it makes the file take longer to render, but atleast i don't have to model duplicate objects. right? wrong! copy crashes carrara just the same. i think i'm going to be down-grading to carrara 1 and using it in classic. i guess i'll just use version 2 for final renders in osX so i can use SMP. so annoying.

Did you try putting your object up in the browser tray and then pulling it back down multiple times? Just a suggestion. -Kix

Hi pix, It's only with OSX.2 and Evoia knows about it. They're building the fix into the next patch. Jaguar is sitting in a box in my studio. It may be awhile until I install it to avoid "issues" with Carrara and other apps... :(

Dang, I just got a brand new G-4 loaded with jaguar, I guess I can always boot it in classic and just use Carrara that way till the bug fix is out.

thanks for the info... no i haven't tried dragging to and from the browser. i'll give that a shot tomorrow. - thanks. i was afraid that it would be a problem with the new os, but i have a solution to the jagaur issue... when i first got my new machine at work, i just gutted my old one, taking the ata drives out and sticking them in the new box. when i turned the machine on, it booted in 10.1.5 off of my old disk. i didn't even notice it for a couple of minutes. everything worked fine, although jaguar is much faster. so if you load 10.1.5 on another disk, or a partition of a disk, you could select a different start-up drive and still use carrara in osx and still be able to take advantage of multi-processing. plus, since near as i can tell, c2 is still about as unstable as c1, it sure pays to be running in x, since you don't have to restart after every crash. hopefully the new patch will come out soon. has anyone got any idea as to the time table?

Well I tried my own advice... I tried re-installing X on my MP mac only to find out that while 10.1.5 works, previous versions do not work. And my Installer CD is for 10.1. So I tried booting up in 9.2.2 to use Carrara. Nope. Can't even open the app. I guess tomorrow, I'll bring in the Carrara 1.1 intstaller and put it on my computer. I suppose that if I can atleast run in 9.2.2 or in Classic, that I can get work done. Forget my rotting second processor. I'm getting close to the end of my rope with this program though. Maybe I just need to buy a PC. It worked great on the PC I tried it on. OK. My rant is over. Thanks for all the help, guys. I'll work something out I suppose. -Scott

I am having the exact same problem. Lets hope there is a fix soon--this is a REAL pain!

Pinklet ( ) posted Fri, 13 September 2002 at 8:53 PM

There is a separate installer for System 9. In other words, you have three different installers in the Carrara CD. On for Windows, one for OS X, and one for OS 9. The 9 version should run fine in Classic although I am not sure since I am running system 10.1.5 using Carrara for OS X with the latest Patch.

Hi, if you still have the problem with duplicating objects on 10.2, it would help us if you could send us your carrara.ini file. You should try deleting your carrara.ini (make a copy of it first), it might help. Otherwise some people have mentionned that reinstalling carrara and then the patch seems to fix the problem. In any case, if you could send us your carrara.ini at charles@eovia.com , it might help fix this weird problem. Thanks Charles

Where do you find the carrara.ini file. I did a search and I only have the following carrara files: carrara.crash.log, carrara.plist, and carrara.priv. No "carrara.ini" Let me know and I will send you the file.

charlesb ( ) posted Mon, 16 September 2002 at 12:59 PM

I made a mistake with the Carrara.ini is actually called "Carrara Prefs" on the Mac (I was at home and I do not have a Mac at home). Which explains why you could not find it. Once again my email is charles@eovia.com. Please email me so that we can fix this problem. Thanks Charles
