Subject: P4 to P5 : To or To Not Fresh Install?

To any of newly P5 owners... Did anyone do a fresh install or separate installation of P5? Did any of you find one worked better than the other? Or is there a link to a previous post addressing this issue?

I did a separate install of P5. There was a lot of garbage in P4 that needed to be cleaned out. So will be doing that little by little. P4 was up way over 4G.

Yeah, I kinda got that impression of doing a separate install.

One of the "little" things I love about P5 is linking to another Runtime (pg.125). Adding the P4 Runtime folder as a new library took a minute. So P4 is still available for my product testing - and all my Millennium and P4FemMagic characters and their files are just as I'm used to them. Zero time spent moving and reorganizing them, and they load just fine. Much (but I don't think all) of the P4 content is included in the P5 libraries, so I'll probably cull duplicates from one or the other Runtime. But that can wait and I can focus now on learning all these new goodies! Elisa/gryffnn

You know when I installed mine I did not get the option to get the P4 Runtime folder. I wonder what I did wrong. Sharen

Good morning, Sharen - did you get any sleep last night? No caps today? Hope you're still excited ;-) Just open the library and keep clicking the folders with the up arrows until you get to the top of the stack and see the P5 and Download folders. Click the plus icon at the botton, and use the popup dialog to navigate to your P4 Runtime library, press OK, and a new folder appears with all your P4 content in its accustomed order! Have fun - Elisa/gryffnn

Thanks guys and gals, I wish I had known that before spending an hour reinstalling all of the stuff I had for P4. I guess I needed to read the instruction book a little more.

I guess the only other question I have is the new file management system. Does it work well? Or do I need to purchase PBooost? Does it still work even if you have a separate P4 installed?

I have been slowly but surely moving stuff to P5. the new folder structure is fantastic, especially now that you can have subfolders. Right now I have both P4 and P5 installed, purchased P5 as full.

Just as a note: I upgraded, and there's no problem keeping a separate P4 installed. The sub-folders are great. I guess you could set them up in your old P4 Runtime folder and they'd show up in P5, once you switch over completely to P5 and won't be accessing the files from P4 anymore (where the subfolders won't show up). Even after I get up to speed with P5 I'll keep P4 for product testing, so guess I'll leave the old Runtime as is for a while.
