Subject: Render Problems on Mac

Im not sure if anyone else if having this problem, but if I render anything more than once in the Render room and try to close one of the renders it crashes. Other than that I love this program (even though I hardly know what Im doing on it.) Azreal

Hmmmm, I'm not having anything like that on my system. Make sure that you're using the 1.1 update. I had a problem with both Open GL and ATI rage 128 extensions activated simultaneously with crashing after 'spot' renders. I disabled the ATI and had no more problems. Mark

Which ATI extensions should I disable. the ones that are part of the Open GL set or the ones by themselves, or all of them. Azreal

I have the same problem on three different Mac's. I am not using Open GL or any ATI boards so the problem lurks somewhere else. I have found the program to be so unstable in some states that I am still using RD Studio 5.5 all the time. I've allocated at least 100 MB of memory, 300 MHz & 400 MHz G-3's plus a 400 MHz Powerbook. All running OS 9 and all have the same problem. For the record it was happening w/ OS 8.6 too before I upgraded.

I think you may be having problems related to the upgrade from 8.6 to 9.0, which leads to many problems, including spurious messages about missing libraries when trying to use quicktime or the color picker. If you check your color picker, you may find it is still the OS 8.6 version, rather than the OS 9.0 version 2.1.1 Carrara had those problems you describe for me prior to the update, but now it is stable, whether saving new files/ folders to the shader browser, or doing 10 or 15 renders in a row. So you should check to see which OS 8.6 extensions and control panels you are still using, and turn off all of them except quicktime, which you might wanna update to v. 4.1

I'm glad you can get at least one render done. I havn't had any trouble after the "updater" install until just yesterday. Car crashes durring renders now & I don't think I've changed anything.

I seams to be a problem with the shaders. Iv'e noticed that if I create a shader (like mapping a texture to an object)in RDS 5.5 and save internally and then open the file in Carrara it renders OK. Can't do that in Carrara without a crash.
