Well folks...I'll apologize right up fron for being one of the whiners..BUT Could not register online---some kind of "parse" problem.... Finally got that challenge solved...you do have to read to get that working--- Probably the most unintuitive install/registration I've ever encountered. OK...its all installed--LETS PLAY !!!! Got the dorks brother Don up there...decided to play in the face room---no reading of course...all of a sudden I have 5 or 6 windows open..all the same...where did these come from? They wouldn't close...nothing--CTRL-ALT-DELETE...#1 OK....I'm fuming a bit,,,but lets get on with it... Tried the Don man again...face room...got some green dot on his face...wow..way cool...shape, big nose, Jay Leno chin..awesome...apply to figure..great...render this dude...well, there's what appears to be a render box...gray color..nothing...nothing...ok--this isn't working...file/new---ok..a new document window...but WAIT--THAT RENDER BOX IS STILL THERE...nothing working--CTRL-ALT-DELETE....#2 Smoke is starting to come from my nostrils.... Well, let's try some hair...well, maybe not...let's read some...do I need to sit on the throne for some quiet reading time ??? Maybe, right after the valiums.... And that EULA---Its everywhere...it scared me so much I almost sent the package back...its in the manual, its on the CD cello...it pops up when you install...its on the reference sheet...come on already Curious ???? Your getting damn anal.... I'm sorry...my initial turn with Poser 5....RATING -5 on a scale of -10 to +10

Im guessing that Poser must have some hardware incompatability becouse thugh many reported problems I and others had smooth sailing no crashes yet and Ive been playing around for two days. BTW wgreenlee1 go back to the lightwave forum.

Must be hardware...this thing just isn't running at all. For instance, if I'm in the Pose room, then go to the face room...back to the pose room...the face room boxes are still on the screen..but inactive...can't close them. Its as if the previous room does not close down properly and remains behind. This happens in all the rooms, so when I try to go back to a different one, the other windows are still there, making the whole thing unuseable...Then its CTRL-ALT-DELETE.... I've gotten 2 renders off in 3 hours...the rest of the time has been lock ups and retained windows. Another problem..I loaded hi res Judy...hit render..the box came up that it couldn't find the file...asked it I want to search--said yes..it then pooped up again --YES---then the render took place...I think it may have found the file...who knows ???? I defragged my hard drive prior to install....it really seems as if there is not enough memory to do anything...but if this needs more than 512meg for one figure with no clothes, I'm in big trouble...and so are a lot of other folks..... As of this moment, I'd send this back in a heartbeat...but of course I need to torture myself a bit longer :) If it doesn't settly down, I'll try to get in touch with Curious tech support.... Like I said before...I have all new drivers for video, sound, etc..plus SP! for XP...maybe I should go back to old video drivers and ditch XP SP1....would be an interesting experiment.

DAve-So - Don't know if you saw my other message in the "p5 crash" thread (we have pretty much the same system), but I installed Poser 5 first, then XP service pack 1. Also - my video card is an Abit Siluro MX 400 64 mb and I haven't updated the drivers.

Hey--redon--just read that other one--left a reply there...but, I don't have a firewall...but do have a router... Pretty strange stuff happening....I may need to back out of my drivers, and dump XP1...reinstall Poser 5...perhaps it doesn't like all the new stuff.... This is the only program I have that behaves like this...its a real bummer because I really want to use this baby... but so far, I really don't know what to do...maybe just mess with it a bit more and email Curious tech support to see what they have to say about it

Dave-So, I had the same problem when moving from the Pose room to Face room and back, face dialogs I couldn't do anything with and pose parameter dial list in the face room that wouldn't close. I had to close Poser and restart it again. I'm in XP Home, without SP1 (but I'm patched up through its release for security holes) on a P4 1.7GHz 512MB ram, Nvidia 32MB TNT2 based card running not too fresh (but stable in all other apps) Detonator drivers.

Poser 5 has hung on me once and had this corruption problem once with dialogs that forced a restart so far. But I've only run it about six times so far.

Diana---hmmmm :) yes, sounds pretty much the same....I'm on XP Home myself. I'm still messing with it, but now on the net kick to settle myself down before I go back for another torture session.... I'm heading to the curios site now to file a problem report...hopefully their desk isn't 40 feet high with them.

Hi all, To say I'm disappointed with P5 is an understatement:( I was so excited when it came yesteday..... Oh, P5 works just fine - as long as I don't try to run it ! LOL Registration was a horror-tried several times via web-No Go. I got TWO different challenge codes! Had to do it via email finally because my machine locked up with every attempt (Can't have P5 open and be online at the same time.) Now I have no place to put the Response Code from CL since the registration window does Not come up anymore...???? (Dave-So you're lucky if Ctrl-Alt-Delete works for you-mine just locks up completely or I get the blue screen of death!) Finally I gave up and went to bed - figured I'd get a fresh start with P5 this morning...NOT - Poser 5 would not even open-"Illegal Operation-p5 caused invalid page fault...." pops up,Parsing errors, etc. Tech Support's answer was to reinstall. So I did...for the THIRD TIME. Hard drive was defragged, etc. prior to install. Still no registration window coming up so I can insert the Response Code. Shut down any progs running in the background but P5 will open...and that's about it. Loaded a low res model, opened the Material Room-model disappears, new windows pop up, P5 locks up, have to restart machine. All kinds of crazy stuff happening. It is not a memory problem-almost 300 megs is available to P5. I'm using Win98SE,800mHz,P3- NO problems with any other 3D apps or any other progs - including Poser 4. I've never had so many problems with a piece of software before. I'm starting to wonder if some of us have bad CDs..? Any thoughts? -Cheryl

There's something very wrong for sure. I sent an email to Curious support...hopefully they will have a sensible answer. I can see reinstalling once, but that's about it....could be a bunch of bad CDs...wouldn't be the first time for that. My P5 now seems most problematic in the face room...for some reason the face shaping tool window does not close when leaving the face room. It is above the document window and cannot be closed...it is more of a screen problem. If you go back in the face room, another face shaping window opens..then you have 2...on and on. It also seems as if the entire display is very sensitive. If you click on anything, something is bound to open up...not a problem if it could be closed, but incorrect windows open in the wrong room...such as if I'm in the face room or hair room and click on the head--the pose controls open...screwing up the room you're in...then that room locks up.....its very frustrating.
