Subject: P5 Hair - what a tangled mess ;)

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Sat, 14 September 2002 at 9:31 PM · edited Sat, 03 August 2024 at 7:41 AM

Hey all, I just started messing with Poser 5 and i must admit that the features are way cool (though, i'm no pro, so easily dazzled). From trying to grow some on Don's (now, Taro, after some ethnic cleansing ;) head it appears that doing it all in one go is not a good idea. Any suggestions on keeping those darn strands under control? After being pulled down, they tend to get stuck in the poor guys head and face with no easy way to get a hold on them. Should hair be done in smaller, more manageable patches? Thanks, Kuroyume

that's what I'm experimenting with now..smaller patches...but I've noticed the whole deal starts to slow down pretty quick...very resource intensive... AMD XP1800+ 512 meg ram

Yes, it does doesn't it? My system is a dual PIII 1GHz and has 1.3GB memory and I'm still experiencing slow downs over 2500 hairs. I wish that the ATI Radeon 7500 (or my GeForce4) could be put into action to speed things up, but I still like the results :) Kuroyume

Making the hair in sections is the way to go. Following real slope patterns with the use of materials grouping is something I'm working on. Wig making tutorials..anything that shows hair growth patterns would be useful as well.

JeffH: That's a very good suggestion. Will look for info on wig making and similar. I tried making three hair groups: front, middle, back. The results were much better than one big hair group and now my hair is more manageable and soft with no split ends. ;) Kuroyume
