Yes FraxFlame is one of the Photoshop plug-in filters (set 5) produced by the old Meta-creations (Kai Kruse's outfit) It produces pretty much an identical effect to the ones you've produced in Gimp. Uses colour gradients and logarithmic fractal generations to produce the effect. I would guess Gimp does the same thing. What I was interested in was the trans map which presumably allows you to map out the black in the image giving you that cool dragon flame effect. I'll have to go back to Fraxflame and see if it will produce an alpha map.
