Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
I'd like Bezier-based spline curves in the Graph Editor.

Maybe by the time version 8 comes around, in 2027, computing technology will have advanced far enough that Curious Labs can find some wild, fantastic, currently unimaginable way to fix the File:Open bug.

There are only two things I really want in any future release of Poser. 1. Better lights and easier to use lighting tools (I want to be able to click on the light in the DISPLAY window and drag it, size it, rotate it so that I can actually SEE where it is and where it's pointing instead of GUESSING the way it has to be done now. 2. The same abilities for the camera controls. I HATE THAT FREAKIN' USELESS TRACKBALL!!! I want PRECISION. I want to SEE my camera! These two items are the reason I will never EVER use poser as a final production tool, no matter if it has the best rendering engine ever created.
I want a menu item called 'The Masters' added.. With Sub Menus that allow you to add the Master of Choice Plugin. When invoked you can't help but turn out works equal to those of the chosen master... Oh and a talent button... That would be good.. ;) Helen

If anyone sees a mind wandering aimlessly around..... It is mine.
I want it back.
Motion Capture!!! There it is all summed up for Poser 9(I figure one of my addition ideas per upgrade..;) That is a really usefull idea! I'm about to go ahead and spend $600 on an academic Kinecapture, and another $200 on a second video cam! At that the software could still use another two cameras. Dual Processor Support, I could use that too, nice idea! A Poser spray can would be good also! There are my votes for Poser 10, and 11! I can see where Poser Lightening would come in handy, thanks Ron! OK that's 12... A History function for 13, that's is nice! As I say I'm not very serious about holding off untill Poser13 for all of these functions, but realistically I'm not sure what kind of capital all this would require, nor am I aware of what Curious Labs Stock Market Prospectus is worth...I just think Poser, with all of these additions us former MC fans notice, would make way for heavy competition from Alias, Newtek, Discreet, etc. Of course the price tag could easily get hiked up to the $1,000 marker if we were to see them implimented anytime soon! I wonder if anyone from CL will make it in here and express which functions have, or maybe will, be aired by the development team!!! It would be nice not to ned to leave Poser, for many of these ideas! = )
The Consumers Demand Accelerated Software Evolution! I guess that demonstrates that we're normal.

Instead of listing what I want for a poser upgrade which may be another three years off I'll take another tack which may be more immediate, Bryce 6 wishlist. import of strand based hair inport of shader trees (or complete adoption of the shader tree system which seems far more versitile then Bryces) a combo of that and poser 5 would make me happy for years to come and I wouldn't realy need another upgrade of poser(except the much needed bug fixes)
Please, please keep posting wishlists for any features you'd like to see in desktop modeling apps, be it Poser specific or in general. Developers such as myself check the forums for user requests and complaints such as those above. My morph mapping scripts, the "Tailor", "UVMapper", "CR2Edit" and the other apps out there did not evolve in a vacuum. User complaints and requests are the basis for starting new development.

Each time I go from Poser to Carrara I think to myself of whether or not aome simple Modeler's Tools would go over in Poser. I think a tool to move mesh vertexes along the X, Y and Z axis' would work wonderfully with Poser's Smooth Lined Document Style, and maybe even Full Tracking. I'd also like to see some brycian feature evolve into Poser, like infinite slabs! A Terrain Modeler would be overboard either, nor an atmosphere generator, or organics/plant Labs. And finally, and most importantly, I'd like to see Poser come into a really nice render engine, at least that as nice as Bryce. I'm a big Bryce fan. It's render engine is super! A RayTracer I think. Without spending thousands of $$$ on an engine I think Bryce is the best deal. In comparison I think Poser could stand to inheret a similar engine. The new Firefly looks different, but is definately a Poser class renderer. Bryce is a very definately a sharper engine, especially with global illumination, and generous output file size. Not that I really mind jumping between these three applications, for the money it saves me in Discreet, Alias, and Newtek products, but Poser is a super tool! It is simple and straight forward, very WYSIWYG. Having become familiar with it I expect many of it's functions in, as I learn, Carrara. As far as Poser and Bryce's competitiveness go, I think the two will be in tie, for first place, for sometime to come. Unless of course one were to assimilate the other... = )
