Subject: Collision Detection Part 2

Okay, I finally found the Document Menu Collision Detection Button. It was conspiculously hidden right in front of my face... I must be having a slow day... anuway, I turned it on, I only used edit tools to move the figures. Still no joy.... Detailed scenario is this... 1) Victoria 2 wearing Daz Karate Suit and Sash(Belt). Top and Pants conformed to figure, belt parented to abdomen. 2) Issue is that the Belt penetrates the leg. When I go to "Show Intersections", the whole figure turns dark gray. Question #1) What does the dark grey mean?? When I go to Collision Detection on, nothing changes. Using edit tools, I can still penetrate and collide at will. I then brought in a few props. Collision detection worked fine for the props. Props wouldn't penetrate anything. So does collision detection only work for props??? How do I keep the (*&()& belt from poking through her leg? Short of posing the belt every singe time??? Mark

I found that collision detection only works (sometimes) when you use the mouse to drag your item. It appears to not work when you use the parameter (posing) dials. Then it sometimes doesn't seem to work either way. Guess I need to learn more about it(?) You do have to have collision turned on for every item that is involved. (do that in the item's properties, next to it's parameters). P5, a wonderful perplexing wonderment. very mysterious, it seems.

In "Show Intersection" The parts the are gray are not colliding with anything. If you take two objects and collide them, you will see that the part that has collided turn's red. It does work on figures, however it's hard to do. Try the right palm and left thigh. Don't try to turn it on to more then two parts at a time. Every time I try that, it locks up!

I think I need more Ram. ;) 383 isn't enough!

I am now occassionally getting it to work, but very inconsistent. It also seems to "lock" the figure at times, preventing you from moving it at all. I also had window refresh problems.... and a crash. (P4-1.7G with 1.1G RAM). I still can't get the belt to work... I hope Poser version 5.01 is out soon. Mark

I had a nice long chat with Curious Labs technical support yesterday. We determined the issue lies in that Poser 5 doesn't support the Michael/Vicky/Karate Uniforms correctly. Collision Detection Functions work fine when working with some objects/figures but not others. There is something in the definition of the karate belt such that it doesn't work. Needless to say, I am disappointed about the downward compatibility. Curious Labs Tech support said that they planned on several patches before the end of the year for Poser 5. Mark
