Subject: Missing Textures on Poser Imports

Quoll ( ) posted Sat, 21 September 2002 at 7:00 PM ยท edited Tue, 24 December 2024 at 6:51 PM

I just got Vue a few days ago and have been trying to import poser scenes. So far everything imports with no textures. Has anyone else had this problem? The figures come in fine, but they are grey with no textures assigned. Also, often the hair doesnt import at all. Anyone know what is going on? I am running Vue 4.1 on OSX 10.2.1 Dual 800 G4 / 1.21 gigs of ram NVidia Geforce3 Thanks

Hi Quoll, 1. If you use Poser 5 there may be problems, not fixed yet in Vue. Some of the new Poser hair is not compatible with Vue. Read this thread: http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=862066 2. you must save your Poser 4 scene as *.pz3 and then import it into Vue. It comes perfectly with all the textures, transparencies and bums. Hope you can manage it, if not, please write again. :-)Guitta

Hi Quoll, Yeah, Poser import on a Mac - the never ending story! Here is a copy of my message with the tesing results we (wingedone and i) did with Poser and Vue: The endless ongoing story regarding Poser to Vue on a Mac. The situation was, that on my machine it worked and on others (TheWingedOne) it doesn't. By the way, i even never installed the patch from e-on, on my machine. This import worked from the first moment of Vue 4.1. Okay. The reason we found was, that Vue is not able to find textures wich are saved in sub-folders (see my point on the wishlist!!!). And if that is the case, Vue falls in a very unstabil mode and prefers to crash. So put all textures you are using into one folder without any deeper levels. Then your chances are really good! But here is another result from my test series witch i found interesting as well. Beside the normal Poser format i exported the figure in the different export formats as well to find out wehter there is a workaround. There is only one format wich supports bump maps etc. That is ".obj" (wavefront). The others are supporting the standard Poser textures but are not able to "transfer" other textures, specially when they are sved somewhere else. BUT. The import filter from Vue for ".obj"-files is not able to handle ".pict" and ".bmp" files and can't find this textures anymore. Very surprising, because the import filter for Poser is able to handle these formats. Hope that helps, Walther

Thanks for the info everyone, and especially gebe for the details. I started to set up textures in Vue to use on imported figures, since it is easier to apply textures there than in Poser anyhow! Thought I might be able to reuse those over again in the future. I will try putting all the textures together in one folder though. I just hat having duplicates of files all over the place. ; ) So, my search for a native OSX rendering engine for Poser didnt turn out as streamlined as I had planned, but it seems like there are reasonable workarounds. Thanks everyone.

Quoll, welcome to the club! ;o) Okay, here's what I found out: As wabe said you have to put all textures into a single folder. I ususally rename the regular "textures" folder within Poser into something like "textures-bak". Afterwards I create a folder called "textures" and put all needed textures into this folder. If do it this way all textures should lod properly. Also make shure that you don't use BUM-files as bump maps since Vue seems to have problems with this format. If you use JPEGs instead - no problem. So it depends whether you use Poser 4 or Pro Pack (bump mapping). Since I use Poser 4 which uses BUM-files I always reopen the cr2 I'd like to import with a text editor like BBEdit and replace all BUM references with the JPEG bump map. Afterwards the import works. I know this is not what e-on promised but it's still better than apply all textures manually. <:) If you need further help just let me know through 'Rosity-IM. Best regards, Phil
