Subject: Buying V2 over the free lo res V2 and Judy

EricofSD ( ) posted Tue, 24 September 2002 at 12:03 AM ยท edited Thu, 08 August 2024 at 8:39 AM

I've had tons of fun with V2lores that was offered free at DAZ some time ago. There are limitations. Some of the V2 props such as the mermaid tail won't load easily because they don't see the V2 obj, etc. i have to load lores and use heirarchy editor and parent, etc to get it to work. Ok, so I held off buying the full deal to see what Judy would be like. I'm amazed at Judy. Just outstanding. She seems to move smoother, have better IK relations, etc. She can be morphed to a child, a teen, or an old lady. Yet folks are saying the full V2 is better. So, that's the question. Should I spend half the amount it cost for the P5 upgrade to get the full V2? Is the purchase going to be well worth it or will I wish I had just put up with all the workarounds on the free model I have? I have to say, things like the armpits, etc, are much smoother in Judy than LoRes V. (Though I understand that the the lores has a lores body with bad arm to body joints). I the full deal really better than Judy?

the Judy joints are definately better then Vicky but not by tons. I personaly love Vicky and will still use her at least as much as Judy. the unending morphs alone were worth the purchase price to me. but saying that I'm sure that talented modelers will be coming out with Judy morphs in no time. from clues dropped V#3 is due out in the not too distant future so if you like judy you might want to hold out a little longer for vicky.

Ah, I forgot about the V3 rumor. Hope all my V2 accessories work with her. Ok. thanks.

Please someone make some morphs for the P5 figures! I can't believe how few there are compared to the Daz characters!! Also, how do I get eyelashes on my characters, am I just missing something really obvious? Thanks, Marque

Personal opinions/observations: - Vicky II has TONS of morphs, compared to Judy. Judy is really lacking in face-shaping morphs and the face room doesn't make up for the lack of morphs (need more nose and mouth/lip morphs, in particular). - Judy shipped without full body morphs, but that was an oversight and will be fixed in an update... having said that, from what I've seen of the included morphs (breasts, etc), I much prefer Vicky's. Judy's breast morphs remind me of a lot of the Posette morphs and well (trying to be kind)... just don't do it for me ;). - I do like Judy's default body shape - below the shoulders. I'm not crazy about her shoulders and upper arms, and her heels are a bit pointy, but I hadn't played with the morphs there much yet either. - Judy has no transmapped eyebrows (Vicky has one layer over the head texture, Stephanie has two layers over the head texture). - Judy has no eyelash length morph (yet). - Judy's default head shape leads me to believe there's some alien influences in her herritage - maybe her mom got abducted? ;). In short, I find Vicky II much more flexable as far as range of achievable characters and attractiveness, though I'm sure Judy will get better with age (more morphs). As mentioned above, you might be able to skip V2 and wait on V3, but it's nice having a range of base characters to choose from and I've found V2 to be very flexable and worth what I paid for her.

It's fairly certain from Daz's track record that VIcky 3 will be on sale when she comes out, if I was in your position, I'd wait, you have Judy, morphs will be coming for her, textures for V2 work on her. Armpits for V2 aren't that much better than V1-- armpits are Daz's blind spot, they go on forever. The cd's offer the clothing pack which you will probably want for two things-- the bikini and the catsuit-- people use them alot. If you don't plan to use them, stick it out for Vicki 3. Odds are excellent that she will wear everything Vicki one and 2 wore, thought her morphing may be different. A few months after her arrival, maybe more than a few, the Vicki 2 CD's will plummet in price. Emily

I've been having a great time working away on Judy morphs for a big set, similar to my P4FemMagic. My favorite thing about the P5 figures is that they have the same head mesh, so many of the morphs can be moved between them with MorphManager or CR2Edit. (Just don't export/import because the head positions are different and you'll get the broken/stretched neck effect.) So meanwhile, you can expand Judy's morphs by moving some from Don, and the bonus Judy and Don files on the Application (not Content) CD. I'll still be using Vic, Mike, Steph, and P4Fem a lot, but the P5 figures are a great addition. I almost forgot the lash length morph - just added it to my list. Any other requests for head morphs? "Any other requests for head morphs?" ... "No Butt Cheeks" Nose morph ;)... something to get rid of the crease going up the center of the nose tip. And while you're there, she could use about another half-dozen or so nose shaping morphs (ridge/bridge wider, etc.) to help fix artifacts of the Face Room adjustments. She could also use more mouth/lips morphs... in particular, some way to make the mouth wider without persing the lips or adding deep creases at the edges. Those are my main issues... by default, her eyes are too far apart, relative to her mouth. If you push the eyes together, you end up with a sharply ridged nose, with a squared off area at the top, too thin down the ridge, and butt-cheeks on the tip. If you try and widen the mouth (on her already over-sized head).. well, there's not much way to do it to start with and if you find a way, it usually ends up looking like she has a permanent smile/smirk on her face ;).
