THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Bryce 4, Bryce 5 and.... trees?

Quinch ( ) posted Sat, 21 September 2002 at 11:27 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 5:22 AM

The situation is like this; I have Bryce 4, and I'm making a scene/animation that requires ralistic-looking trees... thus, a 2D won't exactly do, and I've experimented with the lattice thing and it's a no go. Thus, I've asked a friend if he could make me a few trees {okay, a dozen or so} and send them to me only to find out.... he can't export them! Now, I haven't even seen B5 yet, but this sounds just a bit silly... Can someone tell me if there really is a way to get "real" trees into Bryce 4, or should I put this on hold until I can get enough money to upgrade?

There should be a few trees in the presets or even on the content disk. Otherwise you should be able to find models on the web. There's no way to get Bryce 5 trees into Bryce 4, at least not the models because the trees are essentially made of metaballs and Bryce 4 doesn't have metaballs.

you could make your scene exist above treeline. if it's a mountain scene, that is.

I use xfrog to make trees for bryce 4.You can get a 30 days full working copy from their website, there are some trees included that you can use and if you like the program buy it. there is a xfrog Forum on the right side with a link to their hp

There's also a freeware program called treegenerator. It makes trees and it exports to DXF.

Metasequioa makes trees?! COOL!! I didn't know that. I'll have to try the program sometime.

You can make trees in Amorphium and though I'm excited to see airflames's metasequoia tut, it seems to me that amorphium would be faster at this. Amorphium from Play software was a freebie on a magazine some time ago. The box version with the manual was dumped on Ebay a few weeks ago and I got one for $6. If you go to the web site above you can buy the pro version for about 100 bucks or you can get the www.dvgarage.com package for 200 (watch the popup screen). I got the package. Its the full version 2.9 of Universe with about 3gigs of training videos. Well worth the money because you get a modeler that does nurbs, ubernurbs, bezier, boolean, and on and on. You can save the model in .fac format which amorphium will read and import. You can then export in .obj format, etc. Go get the demo's first. They work well for 30 days. Universe is NT based so you will need NT or win2k. Might work on xp pro, haven't tried that yet. While amorphium works on just about anything, universe won't work on 9x systems. Anyway, making the tree trunk in amorphim is a snap. the leaves are another story and I don't have any tips there except to suggest a sphere with one of the foliage materials in Bryce. Again, if you make your sphere in Amorphium (morph to your heart's content) and import to Bryce, you can texture and export.
